DO NOT RENT HERE Management is awful. I lived here for two years, was never once late on rent, never received a noise complaint (or any complaint for that matter), and never gave them any trouble. One day, I had a couple of friends over who happened to be African-American. A miserable old woman named by the name of Dawn who works at the front desk happened to see them come in with me and quite visibly gave them a dirty look. A day later I received a letter under my door "reminding" me of the no drug policy all tenants are required to sign along with a threatening message saying she would call the police if she saw "suspicious" people and/or activities in my apartment. Never once did I use or posses drugs in that building and she had no reason to think so. This was strictly based on the time she saw my black friends. DO NOT RENT FROM OR SUPPORT THESE RACIST SCUM BAGS. Many other who have dealt with Dawn (from KMS) have told my similar stories and I've encouraged them to write reviews and call the housing authority. Good luck in your apartment search. Avoid giving these bigots your money if at all possible.

Loring Grove Apartments is haunted...not by ghosts--there are no such things, don’t you know--but by its own presence. Initially built during the Warren G. Harding Administration, the building’s skeleton is composed of hallways that are punctuated by doorbells that haven’t dinged or donged in decades; those same hallways are accented by firehose storage closets that are about as functional as an Escher sketch. Each bathroom still bears the quaint labels that offer the “rules governing use and occupancy.” These include policies regarding noise, refuse and garbage, pluming and electrical fixtures, among other helpful instructions. The courtyard and lobbies are both sights to behold. Despite its rich history, the structure doesn’t feel old thanks to the experts of the crack maintenance staff--they’re quick and competent and courteous, at least according to my experience. A perfectly serviceable fitness center is available to residents, as is a bike storage room. Supplemental storage space is also an option. Renting a parking lot spot is a pricey proposition, but it beats the cobalt blue heck out of the alternative (unless circling around downtown looking for a parking spot like a brain damaged thresher shark is your thing). Parts of Downtown Minneapolis can be somewhat dicey, but this part isn’t one of those parts. Loring Grove is nestled into—wait for it--Loring Park, a part of town that’s (more-or-less) Mayberry with hair dye and guyliner. Virtually everything, anything—food, drink, entertainment—is within walking distance. The few encounters I’ve had with office staff have always been pleasant. They do a good job of keeping residents in the loop regarding Loring Grove’s general doings via such newfangled methods as e-mail and texts, instilling a sense of community whenever they can.
