With the nickname "Queen City of the Ozarks," there's little doubt that Springfield is one of the most unique and charming cities in Missouri. It's the birthplace of the famous Route 66, which spans 2,448 miles across multiple states. There are also numerous career opportunities and great attractions in this city.
Location
Springfield is located in scenic southwest Missouri, approximately 149 miles from Kansas City. It contains many universities, including Missouri State University, Drury University, and Evangel University. It's also home to a number of sports teams, such as the Missouri State Bears and the Springfield Cardinals. Several attractions draw visitors from across the country, such as Wilson's Creek National Battlefield, which offers tours of the first major battle of the Civil War, and the ancient Fantastic Caverns, a cave filled with massive formations.
History
The city has a long and fascinating history. Originally, Native American tribes like the Kickapoo, Delaware, and Osage set up their civilization in the area. William Fulbright and his family took up 160 acres in 1830, and Fulbright erected the first cabin built in what became Springfield. Officials incorporated the area in 1838, and it kept growing in size over the next century.
Fun activities
From art museums to beautiful parks, there's plenty to do in Springfield. Grant Beach is a popular place to congregate in the spring and summer months, with its large swimming pool, playground, tennis courts, ballfield, and basketball court.
With the charm of a quiet Midwest town and the hustle of a larger city, Springfield is the perfect medium between urban living and the slower, friendly countryside. Communities like Quail Creek feature a quiet, open atmosphere within close distance to some of the city's finest establishments. The vibrant culture has also led to plenty of population growth here.
