I was one of the first residents at the GoatBlocks when it opened in 2017, before many of the new nearby apartments were even up, neither of the Moderas and no Windsor. Decided on the 1025 building.
One of the biggest selling points were the people working here then. Jordan was one of the most attentive and friendly head managers. Jaime was the event manager, but he made the events worthwhile. After the previous management company lost Jordan they soon decided to get rid of Jaime (and the events!). This left a sore taste in the mouths of those who knew them and enjoyed the events.
The place can’t be in a better location, close to everything and close to access points to everywhere. For anyone not afraid of a longer trek, even Powell’s and Providence Park are a walk away. Otherwise bikes, bus lines, and the streetcar get you wherever with the stress of driving or parking. You even qualify for Trimet discounts living here (ask me how).
The management has changed hands since I've been here. And so have too many of the employees. The jury is out though. Even though everyone has been decent, the current staff is finally top notch again. I’ve mostly worked with Christy, but all of the front office are wonderful. Kind, caring, respectful, diligent, knowledgeable, patient, all of the things that are close to impossible to teach or fake. I hope this place realizes the value of continuity and quality; tenants value familiarity and relationships.
The less visible staff has also always been wonderful: the team that cleans, the rooftop gardener, and the maintenance crew.
Let it be known that theft is a risk you incur. Not Goatblocks fault. Not even cameras will prevent thieves, especially those after expensive bikes. I have stored my less expensive (though nice enough; $500+) bike with a ulock in the bike garage for 7 years and zero problems. I can’t say the same for an expensive e-bike that I foolishly trusted would be safe in that same bike garage. I had multiple locks and chains on it, but the thieves outwitted me and sawed off the rack. This was before the cameras and the more frequent security presence.
The amenities are sweet, the location is amazing, the responsiveness is great, but it’s the people who make this place great above just decent. If you understand and enjoy Portland and apartment living, the Goatblocks can’t be beat in my opinion.

Moved in about a month ago and I love it… The neighborhood is quiet, my dog is happy, i love the wood finishes on everything. The community garden is so nice to have. Best place i’ve lived so far, in my whole life.
I'll just start with the main point. I LOVE the Goat Blocks. Best apt I've ever lived in.
I did a lot of research before moving. Looked at multiple places and none compared to Goat Blocks. The cost for what you get is so worth it. There were other places I looked that were smaller, less storage and more expensive. Goat Blocks was a no brainer.
Before moving in, I did read that noise was a problem for some people. It hasn't been for me at all. You do hear noise from the hallways at times and sound from your apt travels to the hallway. I can always hear something when walking down the hall. But, that doesn't matter because in my apt, it is a quiet little oasis with an incredible view.
Heres a few other things that are great:
-all neighbors I've met are kind and courteous. Management encourages a sense of community with events and collab on their app.
-Everyone who works in the office is SO nice. Always helpful and go above and beyond.
-I've never had a package stolen (some reviews mention that but I've been here 2.5 years and never had one stolen)
-Building is very secure
-The balcony is huge! Its like a whole other room for your apt.
-Tons of storage and love the washer dryer in unit
-When there is a maintenance request, they are so fast and always have a fix. For example, my fridge was being weird and kept freezing things.. they brought me a brand new fridge same day.
-Market of choice is downstairs.. this is also dangerous because everything is so yum.
Cons:
-parking sucks. I dont own a car so its not as bad for me but when visitors come, its challenging for them to park close for the weekend. I wish there was a public garage that you could pay daily or that Goat Blocks reserved some spots to rent for a weekend.
- While I appreciate the security, its annoying sometimes having to go downstairs to let anyone come upstairs (elevator has to have fob to get up). I wish there was a code or something we could give guests or grocery deliveries so they could get up the elevator without me going down.
All that being said, I give a 10/10 - Highly recommend!

Our time at goat blocks (around 6 months so far) has been great overall. We’ve bounced between about a half dozen different apartment complexes over the years, and our experience here has been the best that we have had pretty much anywhere.
A Few Pros:
Maintenance - staff is quick and responsive (and friendly) whenever we’ve needed anything
Low move-in costs - the deposit and pet deposit were much more reasonable than we’ve come to expect
Noise - we can only speak for the 1010 building but I'll say that we notice almost no noise from neighbors (outside someone passing by our door talking etc). the walls seem very thick and haven't noticed any noise from either of our neighbors
Some Cons:
Homeless - this isn’t on goat blocks itself, and they do a good job of providing security, having package lockers, key fob entrances etc -- but this is urban Portland, so be prepared to see it around the area.
Trash - this is also for 1010 specifically. The building “provides” (you pay additional for it) a trash valet service, which is in theory nice -- however unlike every other building in the community, it does not have it’s own trash room (not even a dumpster), which seems like a no-brainer. You can walk your trash across the street and into one of the other goat blocks buildings, but paying ~40+/month (last month was actually over $80 for some reason) on top of your rent to not have a dedicated dumpster seems a little crazy. The company who provides the valet is also not always the most consistent in our experience, and expect for holidays etc to affect pick up (which also only happens M-TH, no weekends). This often leads to people piling trash in the halls during the weekend and it can smell pretty bad at times (you aren't supposed to leave it out other than on trash days but it doesn't seem enforced).
All in all, it’s not perfect, but from a couple who’s seen their fair share of different places and management companies, it’s definitely a solid choice if you are looking for somewhere pet friendly in SE Portland.

I really like goat blocks. There are some minor issues like some water in the garage, but that is being actively worked on by the management and city (I mean to say that Goat Blocks management stays on top of system and building repairs).
The rent is great, the location is amazing (I'm in 975, but 1025 is beautiful). The walls are thick from what I can tell, but the floors are either thin or people slam their feet on the floor. Hard to tell.
The community center is robust and there is an active community with their Cobu app, though sometimes I feel the application needs some updates, maintenance or general software maintenance. The community center holds a garden, planted and maintained by staff. The onsite staff are very thorough in fixing appliances and issues like electrical.
I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking to be near Mt. Tabor, the river, downtown, and SE.
Since moving in a few months ago, I have only stellar things to say about Goat Blocks and the staff I've interacted with. Every maintenance issue I've run into was resolved promptly. I feel secure within the building as you have to FOB into every elevator and stairwell. Neighborhood is a little rough, but they have an option for security escort if there is ever a major concern. The top reason I've loved living here is the leasing office staff. I go down to bother Christy, Katie, MJ and JR THRICE per day, and they are always ready to greet me with smiles and treats for my puppies. Amenities are great, dog friendly community is helpful. My view is immaculate. Perfect spot for me and the pups.

I moved in about a month and a half ago and have waited to leave any kind of reviews to get a full experience. I absolutely love my new apartment! Goat blocks staff are so helpful and absolutely amazing! The apartment is unbelievable and views are so stunning! I looked at several apartments before deciding on this one and couldn't be happier! Before moving I read a lot of reviews saying that noise was an issue. I was worried about that but am happy to report that I have not had that issue at all. You do occasionally hear your upstairs neighbor walking around, but I mean it is an apartment and that's just kind of part of apartment living. But even that is rare and you can't even really tell.
Over all my experience with Goat Blocks has been amazing! I love my apartment. Love this community and would definitely recommend them to anyone!
Moving out of the Goat Blocks apartments is bittersweet. It's been an incredible experience living here. The location is unbeatable with easy access to bars, restaurants, and a grocery store right downstairs. The community vibe and amenities make it a top-notch place to live. Will miss it dearly!
