Forest Room, Eco-Friendly, Furnished, Tiny Cottage Are you a minimalist? Would you like to live tiny and consume less material things? Are you a person without any pets? Do you like environmentally focused living? If so, the Forest Room may be perfect for you! The “Forest Room” is a ~120 square foot, tiny cottage cloaked by oak trees. It is located in the historic area of New Almaden, a quirky place with a deep history dating back to the early days of the 1850s and the California gold rush. Our one-room cottage is tucked away in the corner of our property. My wife and I live in the main house on the property along with two roommates. The cottage is removed from the main house and is self-sufficient. Please note that the unit may be difficult to access for individuals with an unsteady gait or limited mobility. To access the cottage, you must walk from the street up a series of outside stairs and steps. We have numerous features in the cottage and on the property that are designed to reduce our impact on the earth. One is our waterless composting toilet and waterless urinal. This provides users with a non-traditional and environmentally-friendly experience that decreases our water use. Shower water is also captured and used for watering native plants on the property instead of sending it to the septic. As such, the water is used two times: once for showering and once for native plant watering. The shower is in a round tub and it requires the user to step up into it. It is 3ft in depth. The shower is heated with an on-demand hot water system that provides a constant stream of perfectly heated water. If you have more specific questions about either of these features, please ask. Cell service: There is limited cell phone signal here, however, you can make calls over our Wi-Fi (assuming your device works in this way). Typically we use WhatsApp for calling over Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is fast! We have the 1gbps down and 40mbps up package from Comcast to share throughout the house. Parking: Parking is available on the street. Noise: Typically, our neighborhood is a quiet and tranquil space away from all city noise pollution. Sometimes our neighbor's dog barks in the afternoon when other folks are walking their dogs. There is also a cat that we call Four White Socks. He may be around hunting for mice outside and may meow proudly if he catches one. Pets: We love all animals, however, we are not ready to host them. Just people, no pets. Additional storage: Living tiny can be a challenge for some. Particularly if you own a lot of stuff or continue to accumulate a lot of stuff after moving in. For this reason, it is important to note that we will not have extra storage space for belongings outside of the Forest Room. Other amenities: The Forest Room comes with a mini-fridge, microwave, and hot plate. There is also a small sink and water cooler. Access to a washer and dryer is available 1x/week. Rental info: 1. $695 monthly rent cost + $55 for utilities. $500 security deposit 2. Month to month lease for the first three months. We’re looking for someone who needs a place for 6 months or more, however, starting with the month to month option gives both parties more flexibility. 3. Reference, background and credit check required.

A Great Room In A Mid-Century Home in New Almaden "South San Jose is a quiet, hilly neighborhood of expansive parks, hiking trails, fishing spots, golf courses, historic houses, and large suburban homes." We have a room we call the "Western Sant Cruz Mountains Room" for its views of the mountains! It is available for rent in a three bedroom, two bathroom house in New Almaden. The room is shown in the photograph. It is 19ft long, 10ft wide at its widest. And has an 8ft ceiling. ~ 200sf. The bathroom is shared with one other person. Rent for the room for a single person is $899, plus $76 for utilities per month. Security deposit is $600. Month to month agreement with a 30-day move out notice, pending background, reference and credit check. Other amenities include a newly remodeled kitchen, washer and dryer, fast internet (1000mbps down, 25mpbs up), low noise pollution, and close proximity to Quicksilver Park. Quicksilver Park has fantastic recreational trails for hiking, biking, and bird watching! Our house is also close to Almaden with numerous grocery stores and public transportation: 1. Safeway in Almaden is 10min away. 2. 15 min from whole foods. 3. Farmers market 9min away. 4. 15 min from Almaden Light rail station. Cell service is not great in this area, however, with your phone connected to the network/internet, calling over wifi is not a problem. An ideal roommate would be a working professional looking for a place closer to nature than to downtown. More about us: We are both young professionals and are looking for similar folks. I work in technology and my wife is in social work. I am a bit of a craftsman and use the garage for various small projects as well as for outdoor gear storage. We are an active couple and enjoy adventuring in the mountains near our house. We are also part of a wine group and typically host the group at our home once or twice per year. We like simple, healthy living and are mostly vegetarian; we cook most of our meals and rarely eat out. We are open to having communal meals on occasion, although we are flexible in how we create a community in the house. We do not have a TV, but we do have a fairly elaborate computer system that is in our private bedroom. We prefer our roommates to not smoke, not have pets, be respectful of communal spaces, and be mindful of noise at night. If you have a partner, we ask that they spend no more than two nights per week at the house, unless they want to contribute towards utilities and rent. We also have two other roommates. One is a quiet, introverted barista. The other is in tech sales. Both are polite and hardworking. Given our busy work schedules, we are rarely all at the house at the same time.
