With a NASCAR speedway, plenty of historical sites, and sports pride, Kansas City, Kansas, is a great place to call home.
Kansas City, Kansas is located right across the state lines from Kansas City, Missouri. While these two cities share many traditions — including barbecue and jazz music — Kansas City, Kansas (KCK), has more of a suburban feel with big-city amenities. Did you know that KCK is a streetcar suburb of KC? Streetcars connected the two cities before motor vehicles became the norm. It's also where the Kansas River, which the locals call "The Kaw," flows from the Missouri River. You can hang out on the spot where the two rivers split off at Kaw Point Park.
This area is NASCAR country, given that the Kansas Speedway occupies land on the western end of town. It's still Chiefs and Royals country, too, since the teams play at Arrowhead Stadium and Kauffman Stadium, respectively, about 15 minutes from the river. College sports are also big here, especially given that the University of Kansas calls Lawrence, a nearby town, its campus home. KCK also has an MLB-partner team called the Kansas City Monarchs, formerly known as the T-Bones. Catch them playing at Legends Field right across from the NASCAR track.
KCK is also home to the University of Kansas Medical Center, which houses KU's medical, nursing, and health care professional schools. If you like history, you'll enjoy visiting the Clendening History of Medicine Museum located inside KU Medical Center. You can also tour the Grinter Place Historic Site and spend a day at Lewis and Clark Park at Kaw Point. Some people believe that the two explorers camped at this site as they made their travels in the West.
