They don't just call it hotlanta because the summers make you sweat. This city sizzles when it comes to BBQ, boutique, vintage and outlet shopping, opportunities for young professionals, culinary ingenuity, and best of all, the average rent in Atlanta is considerably lower than in other big cities like New York, Chicago or Los Angeles. From fried chicken to Fortune 500 companies, the ATL kills the game.
Looking for love? In 2012 Atlanta was named the best city in the country in which to find a date. Once you've found your match, enjoy a picnic and an unforgettable view of the city in the local favorite, Piedmont Park. Next date? Maybe a trip to the High Museum and then to Cafe Intermezzo down the street for a post-exhibit coffee and dessert. Third date already? Catch a concert at the Tabernacle or the Masquerade. Now grab a classic Atlanta Coca Cola to energize and keep you refreshed as you set out to find your new apartment – it's time for you to take a bite out of the "Big Peach". It's gonna be sweet.
Outside of work, Atlanta culture lives up to its easy-going southern roots. But in the business world, Atlanta is a beast. This bustling busines city ranks #5 in Forbes’ “Best Places for Business and Careers”, and grows by the day in the financial, telecommunications, and tech sectors. There are several big-name brands with world headquarters in Atlanta, including Coca-Cola, Home Depot, UPS, Delta Air Lines, and Turner Broadcasting. CNN and The Weather Channel are located here as well. The list of companies headquartered in Atlanta goes on for days, with familiar names such as Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Chick-fil-A, Hooters, and NAPA. Meanwhile, the telecommunications king, Cox Enterprises, maintains their empire with the 4th largest number of employees in Atlanta. The top three Atlanta employers are Delta Air Lines, AT&T, and Emory University, while UPS, Wellstar Health Systems, SunTrust Banks, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, IBM, and Goergia Tech round out the other Top 10 Employers in town.
Atlanta residents appreciate the city's vibrant culture, eclectic neighborhoods, and ample entertainment options. Many enjoy the diverse food scene and the variety of parks, which offer a great balance for outdoor enthusiasts. However, some renters voice concerns about rising housing costs and traffic congestion, particularly during rush hours. Overall, Atlanta provides a dynamic atmosphere, but the challenges of urban living occasionally dampen the experience for some locals.
Atlanta's 2025 rental market shows one-bedroom apartments averaging around $1,500 per month, while two-bedroom units average around $2,100 monthly. Both bedroom types experienced decreases from the previous year, with one-bedrooms down 5.2% and two-bedrooms declining 4.8%.
December offers the lowest rental prices in Atlanta, while April sees the highest rents with approximately a 3% difference between peak and off-peak months. November shows the least competition with reduced demand compared to supply, while March emerges as the most competitive month for apartment hunting.
Georgia State University, Five Points District, Peachtree Center, and SoNo offer the best social living with abundant entertainment venues and strong transit access. For high-demand areas, Campbellton Road and Fairburn Mays generate exceptional interest with one-bedroom apartments at around $2,980 monthly, while Midtown commands similar prices with 640 available listings.
Ashview Heights offers rentals at around $760 per month, 48% below the city median, while Florida Heights provides similar savings at around $770 monthly. Atlanta University Center and Lakewood also deliver significant value at around $820-$860 per month, representing 44-48% below median pricing without sacrificing access to Atlanta's lifestyle amenities.
Atlanta offers strong pet accommodation with 53% of rental listings welcoming pets across the metro area. Cabbagetown, Inman Park, Buckhead Village, and Old Fourth Ward provide the best options for pet owners, featuring extensive outdoor space, dog parks, pet grooming services, and thoughtful apartment amenities like pet waste stations and dedicated pet spaces.
Utilities are rarely included in Atlanta rental properties, appearing in less than 0.1% of total listings. One-bedroom apartments have the highest rate of utility inclusion at 0.21% of listings, while larger units like three-bedrooms include utilities in only 0.02% of available properties.
Atlanta's rental market reflects diverse architectural periods, with contemporary properties leading at 24.8% of available rentals, representing the city's modern growth since the mid-20th century. Historic styles also maintain strong presence, including bungalow-style homes at 18.9% from the early 1900s-1930s and ranch-style properties at 18.5% from the post-World War II suburban boom of the 1940s-1950s.
Zumper’s proprietary rental data fuels our analysis. Rent and market trends, availability, neighborhood popularity, and lifestyle scores are all calculated using real-time and 2026 rental inventory and prices.
Our Lifestyle Categories ("great for eco-living," "great for social life," "great for pet owners," etc.) are determined by set criteria, against which we score each listing and its available features. At the neighborhood level, we calculate the listing count for each category to determine which lifestyles best fit each area.
Zumper, founded in 2012, is North America’s largest privately-owned rental platform, offering over 1 million listings across the U.S. and Canada. Stay informed on the latest trends and shifts in the rental market with our monthly National Rent Report, your go-to resource for key insights into the evolving rental landscape.
