I lived here for a year. Be careful of staying here, the landlords love to take your money with false fees. They never communicate and just charge extra. There’s also a corpse like smell in the hallways. The landlords also allow homeless people to sleep on the floors and stairway. Brick and Timber loves to take advantage of college students, parents beware. There is also a pest issue with rats and cockroaches. Not worth the price of the horrible living situation and berating landlords

PARENTS BEWARE! UNTRUSTWORTHY LANDLORDS, TAKES ADVANTAGE OF COLLEGE STUDENTS// BAIT AND SWITCH TACTICS USED This is about the 2510 Bancroft Way location in Berkeley. I stayed at this apartment for 2 years while attending UCB. For most of the time, I had mixed reviews until just recently. The Brick and Timber property managers, especially Garrett Maddex, decided to cut my lease early. I gave notice that I will have to leave December, as I am a fall graduate. They notified me 2 weeks before the spring semester ends that they will not allow this, and I will have to move out in July (5 months before I graduate) to make room for a new tenant. This shows me how greedy and careless Brick and Timber is towards their tenants. They care more about potential, future money than residents who have been loyal. The email wasn't even polite, just a simple "You got to leave" type. Garrett even had the audacity to say Best Regards at the end. It would have been better if the managers worked with me to find another room here, especially since I've been living in this complex for 2 years, but they did not. Even worse, they notified me after student housing with the school closed, so I am currently left struggling to find housing. This was a complete shock, as multiple Brick and Timber staff have shown gratitude that I stayed for so long, but this email just threw me under the bus. It is currently April 15, and quite late to find housing, especially since we notified them early March. If I am unable to find housing before the next school year, I would love to thank Garrett for his help! Garrett, I see you're great at your job of kicking people out! About 5 different jobs in a span of 5 years, impressive! See you on the streets! I'M A 19 YEAR OLD STUDENT WHO IS NOW FACING HOMELESSNESS BECAUSE OF BRICK AND TIMBER. DECEITFUL AND HORRIBLE LIARS. THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF COLLEGE STUDENTS To further discourage possible tenants: The washer and dryers have been offline the entire 2 years that I have lived here. No matter how many times I've asked the managers or contacted the company to fix it, I've been met with no response. Packages will always be stolen in the lobby, so don't purchase anything too expensive. The windows are never functional, so it can take the strength of ten men to open them sometimes. There is also a nasty insect issue which is visible in the rooms and hallways. The fire alarms go off constantly. I believe the record is about 5 times in one week, and often it is around 1am-5am.
