The newly built Burnett Lofts near the Bishop Arts district are named after the historical Dick Burnett, an oil tycoon from the 1930s. Born in 1898, Burnett served in the Navy during World War I. After striking oil, he bought a struggling minor league baseball team, moving it to Dallas and renaming it the Dallas Eagles. Burnett made the team successful including his historic signing of Dave Hoskins. His work transformed minor league baseball in Texas.
