The U Street Metro entrance is on the block across the street, but we're close enough to downtown that none of us use it very often. Trader Joe's is three blocks away. Yelp reports that there are 12 music venues and over 161 restaurants within a half-mile of the house. The house was built before the Civil War, and has what you would expect from a pre-Home Depot house: hardwood floors, lots of plaster, high ceilings, large bedrooms, radiator heating, front and back yard, floors are mostly level. The house was renovated in 2010, so the kitchen is entirely new, the windows actually work, and the foundation is now structurally sound. Once you move in, there will be four people living here. On the top floor is a statistician (41, M) whose hobbies include transportation policy and owning this house. On the second floor, we have a keeeper of USAID secrets (24, F) and a person working on connecting US volunteers with Latin American nonprofits (30, F). * Your bedroom is 225 square feet (20 m^2), unfurnished. This has very good odds of being the largest bedroom you'll see, by a many-square-foot margin. It's not just a place to sleep, but a space where you can actually spend time doing whatever it is that you do. Has two large closets. West facing. Not in a basement. * Washer/dryer right by the recently renovated kitchen. * The kitchen is meat-free. We hope that you think this is awesome and not a constraint. You don't have to be vegetarian. * 2.5 baths. * We're next door to a church. So we effectively have no neighbors in the evenings, but you only get to sleep in until about 10:30 Sunday morning. The church is often a-rockin' Wednesday evenings. * As there are 4 people in the house, you pay 1/4 of the utilities, including Internet, gas, electric, and once-a-month house cleaning.
