My husband and I have lived at 170 Amsterdam for 1 1/2 years. Our apartment, the building, and the neighborhood felt like home within days of moving in. When our lease was up after the first year, we immediately re-upped for 2 more years. The building has just the right amenities for us. We especially enjoy the rooftop terrace and the music practice rooms. We love our apartment. It has everything we need - modern layout, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a fabulous view. But the best part has definitely been the people who work here. Sophia (the community manager), Andres and the concierge staff, and every single person who works here really goes above and beyond to help whenever we need something. Their positive attitudes and can-do spirit really make this a great place to live.

Lived here for two years. Location: very very good. Not on top of m the subway and yet pretty close - not only one but two subways (66th and 72nd) - 72nd is an express stop. Close to Trader Joe’s and not that far from Target and Whole Foods on Columbus circle. Close to Lincoln Center. Close to a bunch of restaurants on Columbus and Broadway. Just a few minutes from both Central Park and Hudson River Park. Staff: These guys are a top-notch team - they are always patient and helpful in many ways - with packages, mail, fixing stuff (not that I had many of those) - overall what I miss most about this place - to name a few like Andres, Eduardo, and Murat. The leasing staff is not bad, but they changed the team quite often. Apartment: here is where you need to be careful - the finishing are mostly the same and pretty good - but choosing the right layout is important - we used to live facing Amsterdam Avenue on a mid-level floor - we had a nice view, BUT it comes at a cost - even though the windows are thick and soundproof - it will for sure always hear those ambulances from the Mount Sinai hospital down on 60th - you will hear those trucks going through the street at night - you will still hear those fire trucks from the Fire department right on 66th that always make a right on 68th in front of the building. It is not an issue during the day, but during the night, it is somewhat annoying. So if you are sensitive to noise, pick one facing the back of the building and sacrifice the view. Amenities: there are some amenities we didn’t use as the golf simulation -but the rooftop is fantastic, and we always used to go there during warm days - just wish they would put an ice machine to make things easier - but it has a lovely setting, and sometimes you would even have trouble finding a spot, but neighbors were always nice and accommodating - I have met many neighbors just hanging around there. The gym will cost you $75 per month - not super big, but it is well equipped and maintained. The reason we left: management was pretty tough to negotiate when it came to renewing or upgrading the apartment - they were offering great deals to new tenants and not so much for current tenants - at the first year before the pandemic, increased the rent and added a bunch of surcharges of more than $200/month - even the second renewal during the pandemic it was tough to negotiate anything. The corporate renewal staff was very attentive, but not much they could do, I guess. Overall we liked this building - the staff was terrific, and the price seemed fair (before they started adding a bunch of surcharges on the first renewal) - if you are looking to stay in this place for more than a year, really advise negotiating upfront when you join the community otherwise I think management is way too greedy on renewals.
