I moved into Montgomery Heights near the end of 2020. It was a big transition for me, and I had a number of living requirements. I spent a lot of time looking at various properties and was having a difficult time finding the right fit. Fortunately, Montgomery Heights checked all the boxes. It is a pet-friendly residence, split level, with covered off-street parking. It has 1 1/2 baths, which is nice. My unit is very clean and has fresh paint and carpet. It's extremely close in, just blocks from PSU. I work downtown, so the commute is a dream. I also have in-unit washer and dryer (although not all the units have this). The main living space has high ceilings and gives the apartment a roomy feel. I like the layout of the apartment, and the living room has a very nice view of the downtown area. The price per square foot is competitive considering the location and going rate for rentals in Portland. There are a lot of restaurants and bars in the area, which will be nice once the weather gets warmer. It's near a max stop as well, and several other public transit routes. I've also had nice experiences with the property manager, Melissa. She has been very responsive to issues I had after moving in, and has a friendly, tenant focused attitude. This has really contributed to feeling like I made the right decision moving in. There are some issues. The windows are aging and really need to be replaced. The property did replace one of the especially bad windows which was a life saver for heating my bedroom, and noise. I really do appreciate this. The bathrooms have this strange motion detection activation for the ventilation fans and cannot be manually controlled, which is very annoying. Vagrancy is an issue as well, although that is simply a reality of downtown living. Due to the numerous camps in the area, some might not feel safe walking around at night. Folks rummaging through the trash and recycle is a daily occurrence, though the property manager has gone through efforts to keep the trash area clean. I have not seen any camps on the street I live on. The location is very close to the 26 Tunnel, so there is a lot of traffic noise. I've lived next to freeways before so I knew what to expect, but it's important to recognize the intense noise level of the neighborhood. New windows would help considerably with the noise. Because of the various freeways, it also makes navigating the neighborhood a bit difficult, although I'm getting more comfortable with it now. On the other hand, freeway access is excellent. I can get to 26, I-5, or I-84 in a matter of minutes. There are a couple of different grocery stores and mini markets in the area that are easy to get to. There are a number of beautiful, classic Portland houses near here (this is an old neighborhood). Despite the complaints listed, I really do like my apartment. The space is working for me, and the property has made me feel appreciated as a tenant.
