This property was originally built in 1865 as a single-family home for John Chislett, a renowned local architect and landscape designer, and his family. Mr. Chislett, a sculptor and painter from England, arrived in Pittsburgh in 1832 and later advocated for, designed, and acted as the superintendent for the nearby Allegheny Cemetery. The property, enlarged in the early 1900's, retains its original grandeur as well as its gracious outdoor and green space.
