Which Chicago Neighborhood Can You Get The Most Space For Your Money?

Digging into our Chicago neighborhood data, we’ve made a comprehensive list of all Chicago neighborhoods and their respective price per square foot to show you which area of the city has the best and most spacious deals. We found that the median price per square foot for apartments in this city is about $3.07.

Where Your Money Can Stretch The Furthest

All under $1 per square foot, these 5 neighborhoods had the best deals on apartments in terms of getting the most space for your money:

  1. Archer Heights had the most spacious apartments for your money at just $0.26 cents per square foot. Located close to the I-55 highway, this area makes commuting to downtown Chicago convenient.    
  2. New City was the second best neighborhood to stretch your dollar the furthest at $0.86 cents a square foot. 
  3. East Side followed closely behind with $0.90 cents per square foot.
  4. East Garfield Park, at $0.93 cents per square foot, was the most centrally located of the top 5 neighborhoods.
  5. West Englewood rounded out our top 5 neighborhoods with a median of $0.98 cents per square foot. 

Least Space For Your Money

Ranging between $2.62 to $3.17, the following 5 neighborhoods had the apartments with the most expensive price per square foot:

  1. Loop at $3.17 per square foot was the most expensive neighborhood and where you could find the least deals.  
  2. Near North Side followed closely behind with a median of $3.14 per square foot. 
  3. Near West Side ranked as the third neighborhood with the least space at $2.90 per square foot.
  4. Lincoln Park apartments had a median of $2.75 per square foot.
  5. South Loop finished off the bottom 5 neighborhoods at a median of $2.62 per square foot.

Due to the convenience of location, all of the neighborhoods that are located centrally in the city asks for a price premium. Better deals can be found moving more inland and further out.
