Moved in not quite a week ago. The staff, both in the office and maintenance, is impeccably courteous and very helpful. This is a *new* apartment complex, so there have been some trivial teething issues (washer not plugged in, breaker on water heater not closed), but they were just that--trivial--and fixed rapidly and, as mentioned above, courteously... and we will blissfully avoid the kinds of issues we had in our previous older apartment. One issue that you may wish to check: how good is the signal on your cell phone? I find that in my apartment, reception is iffy at best, though somewhat better near the bedroom window. Of course, this is an issue with the cell phone networks, not the apartment, but even once Mediacom installs internet (someday!) for us so my phone which VOIPs when it can will use wifi instead, there's still the occasional power outage. UPDATE, October 26, 2016: an hour or two ago, there was a document and cover letter left at our door. Effective December 1st, the complex will become smoke-free. It will still be possible to smoke on one's patio or balcony... as long as it "does not interfere with the comfort, health, or safety of other residents"". My wife smokes. She does not get around very well... not to mention that winter is approaching. At the last apartment complex we lived in (not, I hasten to add, owned by the folks who own Cascades) we had its smoke-free status sprung on us as we sat in the office on February first, having moved back from Pittsburgh, with the movers pulling in the apartment complex driveway. The Cascades are giving a month's warning, which is good... but whether my wife could smoke was one of the first, if not _the_ first, questions we had, having been burned before. Had we been told no up front, we'd have said "Thank you for your time" and gone on our way, possibly finding a suitable place elsewhere. Instead we signed up, and waited until mid-September to move in, under the impression that my wife could smoke in peace and not have to brave the elements as before. We feel like victims of a bait and switch. UPDATE July 3, 2019: our Mediacom bills have increased significantly. Looking at DirecTV, the other MSO that Cascades is set up for people to connect to, their deals are like Mediacom: reasonable at first, but afterwards you have the screws put to you. I expect I will be cord-cutting shortly, BUT... Cascades doesn't allow outside antennas--which I can certainly understand--and it's built at a local minimum altitude. On the west side there's even part of a hill dug out to make room for the westernmost buildings in the complex. This is *not* a place where an indoor antenna can do well, especially on the first floor. Cord-cutters might want to keep this in mind (though OTOH, Century Link offers gigabit here for a good price when last I looked). I really hope the folks running the complex will consider putting up antennas for each building and giving the tenants the choice of getting the wide variety of central Iowa over-the-air channels that way. UPDATE #2: Happy with CenturyLink gigabit (OK, 930 Mb/s) internet. Not many outages, *symmetrical* data rates (i.e. you can upload as fast as you download), and at the near-gigabit rate, no data cap. I do hope the management allows Google Fiber to set up here.

Cascades became my top choice after thoroughly researching the metro area. I work from home, and it's very quiet throughout the day, and typically during the evenings as well. The fitness center is great and has good quality equipment. The staff are people lovers. They engage us with different events, contests, and gatherings. Last year they had Food Truck Fridays. They've had contests for best decorated deck for Halloween. It's just a fun place to live where you can escape the metro, but be moments away from prime shopping.
