Not a review, per se, more a memory. My paternal grandmother was among the very first residents of the Berkshire when it first opened, sometime in 1950 if I'm not mistaken. I spent a lot of time there over the next ten years, actually living there with Grandmother from 1958 to '60. Grandmother had a suite of three apartments, one overlooking the entrance on the second floor - two one bedroom units plus a studio, with a 'custom' dedicated single entry point (arranged for when the building was under construction). She continued to live there until her death, at 93, in 1964. I loved the small cafe there, and ate at it on a regular basis. I also loved going up to the roof, and I thought nothing of going to parts of it that were 'off limits.' Such a great view! An historical note, when the balding first opened, it was the single largest residential structure under one roof anywhere in the entire country. Now, 74-years on, I see where some folks are less than happy with various issues, but, back in the beginning it was a truly wonderful place. Memories, indeed!
