I’ve lived at Carlyle Mill for about 6 months and my experience here has been great! When I first got here Zahra was very helpful with getting all the information necessary for my move In and has been very attentive when I’ve asked for help. Also, although I haven’t had many maintenance requests I have noticed that the maintenance team is very attentive and consistent with their work.
Now that we have moved in and have had a chance to access our experience, I can definitely say that I’m glad that I didn’t second guess my decision to apply.
Out of all of my encounters with leasing agents, I can say that without a doubt, Zahra is the most efficient and competent!!! Her memory is on point, as she remembers what needs to do be done more than the resident to which the situation applies. She goes above and beyond every single time. It’s common to see her stay beyond office hours if it means staying on top of the community needs. I’m big on companies realizing their talent since most people don’t want to work anymore these days. So I hope that Equity appreciates the fire of this particular employee, because many companies would be blessed to have her. This is clearly more than just a job to Zahra.
She is indeed the face of Carlyle Mill and I’m so happy to have met Ty. He is very approachable and residents feel comfortable speaking with him. They make a wonderful team on top of the awesome maintenance crew we have.
I've been living at Carlyle Mill for 3 years. So far, it's been a great experience. Maintenance work is done within 2 days of request. Office Staff are friendly and Professional. Especially Zahra, which I often tease her that she's the face of Carlyle Mill. Besides working in the office I often see her in the package room working before and after hours making sure packages are organized and placed in their rightful place. If I ever have any trouble finding my package, she helps me with a smile even though she looks visible tired. The only issue I have is I feel the appliances should be updated.
We have lived in Carlyle Mill for the last 5 years. Recently we decided to move and looked at other communities in the neighborhood, but ended up moving to a different apartment within Carlyle Mill. That tells you a lot about Carlyle Mill—it has its negative aspects but ultimately, we picked it again after comparing it to other options. The biggest factor is knowing that Carlyle Mill has consistently offered reliable, quick, and responsive customer service, both with maintenance issues and through its leasing office, specifically Zahra, who is always friendly, makes us feel heard, strives to help, and especially, was also instrumental in us staying here by going the extra mile to get us into a new apartment we loved.
The leasing staff is wonderful! Zahra went out of her way to help us get settled when we moved in and that meant so much to us. They are always ready to help which made our move-in smooth and stress free.

I’ve lived at Carlyle Mills for the last two years. Zahra has been absolutely amazing and is absolutely the best part of living at Carlyle Mill! Whenever I need any help she goes out of her way to make sure everything gets fixed and responds extremely quickly. She goes above and beyond for each and every tenant and is very patient and kind. If you’re looking for a place with a wonderful staff, look no further than Carlyle Mills.

When I first started looking for apartments before I moved here, this place wasn't even on my list. It was actually a last minute tour I took before driving back up north (and was tour #7 at that point). After seeing the place, and weighing out the pro's and cons of all 7 communities I visited, I settled on this place as the best candidate.
I've lived here for a few years now, and while it's not the newest place on the block, I enjoy it. This place was built way before all these towers came into town, and it's nice to have a garden style apartment where you're not living on the 25th floor.
The staff have always been friendly and hardworking. Sometimes there's a bit of turnaround with staff, but that's going to happen with any company. Zahra is always helpful, and has been there for years. Ty, the current manager, is working hard to iron out some of the issues that were either created from prior management, or never addressed by prior management. Both of them are approachable, as well as all the maintenance staff I've ever had to talk to.
A few pros/cons to consider about this community:
- It's a nice walkable area, and a 20-30 minute walk from Old Town. You also have Lost Boy Cider, Atlas Brewing, and a multitude of restaurants and coffee shops within a 5 minute walk
- The community IS a bit older (built in 2004 I believe), but is also one of the more affordable places within driving distance to DC, and within proximity to Old Town. It's also one of only TWO garden style apartments around town. It's up to you to weigh in on whether you're OK with a more lived-in building, or would rather pay ~2900/month for a newer and smaller apartment in a tower.
- The community is 2 blocks from the Yellow line. That's walkable if you have to commute into DC, even in winter.
- The community gym isn't huge, but it get the job done. If you need more machines for "gains", you have OneLife Fitness 2 blocks away.
- Prior management enforced paid parking in the guest spots (Which is more of a municipal lot than guest parking now, IMO). However, the end of Mill Road near the Sheriff's office has free parking from 3pm onward on weekdays, and free all weekend, so you have options if you don't mind walking half a block.
Hope this helps anyone that is shopping around and considering this community if you're moving to the area.
