The only plus to this apartment building is the secure entry and the larger unit size. The hallways are disgusting with outdated, stained, green carpet. They've been redoing the outdated creepy-hotel wallpapered hallway for a couple of months now. It took about a month after they cleared the wallpaper to get someone in to start spackeling the dents in the wall. The parking situation is absolutely terrible in the winter. The lot is too small, which means we had to switch to permit parking. There isn't any visitor parking available after 10 (unless you fill out a form with your guest's license plate etc) and get a parking permit ahead of time, which is inconvenient for those of us who work nights, therefor, having a couple of friends over after work is a hassle. In the summer you can park on the street right next to the building and walk up to the door which isn't that bad. However, November 1st-April 1st the city of Fridley restricts street parking from 2-6AM which creates a problem. Not only is this bad if you have guests over, sometimes the parking lot fills up late at night, and you could come home to no place to park (usually as early as 7 or 8!) When I have guests over, I usually have to go and ask whoever is working at SA on 73RD if my friends could park there, drive them to my apartment, and then drive them back when they're ready to leave. To at least ensure that I always have a place to park, I shell out the extra $45 a month for a garage. It's laughable. The garages are pretty small. I drove a smaller car before, but my S class sedan barely squeezes in. The doors and locks are all janky, and there are no garage openers. I've looked at places in Coon rapids, Anoka, and Blaine. All offer garages with either openers or they're heated parking garages for $40-45. These should realistically only be $30 a month. The next problem is the lack of an office or package box. If you get packages delivered and you're not home, 50% of the time, the post person leaves it in the entryway for anybody to take instead of leaving it with the manager. Usually if there isn't an office, there is some sort of large mail box that the post man can put packages in, and you get the key under your door or something when you get a package. People leave notes, myself included, but I know mine have been ignored before. There's been this weird water pressure problem going on for about a month too. The water sputters when you turn it on, and the toilets sound like they're going to explode when you flush them. It's so bad, my neighbor has even come to ask me if I heard it. The walls are pretty thin. Rent has gone up. If I re- Sign (thankfully I won't be), it would be $825 I believe? I currently pay $770. A garage is almost necessary due to the parking crisis so $870 to live in this place is a freaking joke. Apparently it's based on rent prices in the area, but you have to be worth renting to justify it. Cats are allowed but caged animals (guinea pigs, hamsters, etc) are not. Because that makes sense. This place isn't all bad, but the issues that it DOES have are huge for me and my lifestyle. To be fair, I'll list some pros. I never used the pool, but it always looked decent. There are two laundry rooms on every floor. It's super convenient and it ensures you can always do your laundry. On that note, there's also a nifty machine to load money onto a laundry card so you don't have to fuss with quarters. There's a decent amount of closet space. I have an entryway closet, a pretty spacious linen closet, and two bedroom closets (not walkins. The one is a regular sized closet while the other is a half.) With that being said though, There isn't a lot of kitchen storage at all. I'm just a young person with a poor excuse of a cookware collection and I'm struggling to find room. All-in-all I'd say avoid this place like the plague. Use it as a last option.
