If you are looking to move somewhere that has a low cost of living, beautiful scenic attractions, a good balance of weather and plenty of jobs available then St. Louis, MO should be on the top of your rental agenda.
Sure, the Midwest may not be the most enticing area when compared to top rental markets like San Francisco, Californie. But it is less than a 3rd of the rental price.
My father immigrated to St. Louis, MO from Venezuela and I always wondered why he chose St. Louis. I later saw that it is obvious why he chose to live here. St. Louis is cheap, friendly and beautiful.
Low Cost of Living In Missouri

The average rental price in St. Louis, MO and the surrounding areas range from $750 – $1,100 per month. You can even find studio apartments for as low as $400 per month. That is some of the lowest rental numbers you will see in the U.S.
The average rent isn’t the only thing that lowers the cost of living in St. Louis. Utilities such as heat, electricity, gas and other services average $186 per month for 2 people. 1 liter (1/4 gallon) of gas is only $0.63 and you can get a monthly metro pass for $39.
When compared to other areas throughout the U.S. and top rental markets, St. Louis tackles the problem of the rising high cost of living that is currently happening in the U.S.
Why is this good? Well the lower the cost of living is in your area, the better chances you have of saving money and setting up yourself for financial success.
Available Jobs

Just because the cost of living is lower in St. Louis doesn’t mean your salary is lower too. I have seen most jobs in St. Louis pay far more than companies in other states. There are no shortages of jobs in St. Louis either as it has become a hub for top tech companies, breweries, manufacturing, and other companies. This city is especially great for young professionals looking to kick start their career!
St. Louis is home to the following companies that are always hiring:
- Anheuser Busch
- World Wide Technology
- Mastercard
- Edward Jones
- Express Scripts
- Boeing
- Nestle Purina
- SSM Health
- Centene
- Panera Bread
Top Ranked Schools

If you have children then you absolutely want to know the types of schools in the area that you are looking to move to. St. Louis is beyond kid friendly!
St. Louis has some of the best schools in the country including Washington University and St. Louis University. Universities aren’t the only thing we have though. There are more high schools in the area than you can count including blue ribbon schools like Ursuline Academy.
If you have several children of different ages, there are several award-winning
school parishes and great public schools. The amount of parks, activities and educational opportunities for children are literally everywhere including the free St. Louis Zoo and the Science Center.
Rich History and Beautiful Scenic Attractions

There is a reason why St. Louis is called ‘The Gateway to The West’. It is where Lewis and Clark started their expedition and westward expansion in the 1800s. Being right in the smack-dab in the middle of the country, the city still serves as a “gateway” for people on the move.
The rich history of St. Louis makes it an architectural wonder with beautiful buildings, landmarks and stunning art all around. The St. Louis Arch is not the only landmark in the vicinity, but is pretty breathtaking as they have recently redone the Arch Park and surrounding area. In addition to the Arch, St. Louis also has the amazing Forest Park, The Fox Theatre, Laumeier Sculpture Park and so much more.
St. Louis is close to a plethora of beautiful natural wonders you might have not even heard of including natural springs and caves that are planted throughout the state, national forests and rivers in every direction. We even have a couple of small mountains.
St. Louis is also in close vicinity to the beautiful river town of Alton, IL, Missouri wine country and only a couple hours of drive time to Chicago, Illinois and Kansas City, MO. Not to mention, you can get to pretty much any state around Missouri for a nice weekend getaway.
