Dolby Soho Pop-up

The Oscars already happened, but that doesn’t mean you can’t immerse yourself in the cinematic magic. Stop by The Contenders at Dolby Soho, complete with an in-house cinema, red carpet, and DJ booth with an immersive 360-degree sound system. This pop-up features eight customized sets dedicated to some of this year’s favorite movies. Grab a drink at the “BlackkKlansman” cafe, sit at a piano in the “A Star is Born” living room, pose onstage in Freddie Mercury garb, immerse yourself in the animated world of “Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse,” and teleport to futuristic Wakanda from “Black Panther.”

Museum of Illusions

Step into the immersive visual, sensory, and educational experience at the new Museum of Illusions. Chock full of optical illusions and stimulating puzzles, this space is fun for guests of all ages. Every room is designed to make you wonder and rethink your perception of reality. Wander around the unique exhibits and see yourself infinitely multiplied, imagine what your head looks like on a platter, teeter over a seemingly bottomless pit, and walk along the walls of the Rotated Room.

Museum of the Dog

Relocating from its original location in St. Louis, the Museum of the Dog found its new home in New York– sharing a location with the headquarters of the American Kennel Club. Perfect for dog lovers of all ages, this museum provides an engaging experience through its unique combination of fine arts and technology. Stop by and admire the paintings, figurines, sculptures, and rare pieces from renowned dog artists. Get matched with your spirit dog at the crowd favorite “Find Your Match” exhibit. This kiosk takes your photo and pairs it with the AKC-registered dog breed that is most like you.

Color Factory

What was originally a month-long pop-up in San Francisco, The Color Factory has extended its New York stay through the end of May. The Color Factory is an insanely popular and interactive pop-up nestled in Downtown Manhattan, giving visitors a simultaneously educational and enjoyable experience. Each of its 16 rooms feature a different color, with the intention to showcase local art and help visitors explore the importance of color in the world. Dive into the pastel blue ball pit, snack on a macaron off the colorful conveyor belt, or strike a pose on the illuminated Twister-esque dance floor. Don’t forget to snap some pics at this photogenic spot.

Tolkien: Maker of Middle-Earth

Through May 12

Calling all fans of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Check out this one-of-a-kind exhibit on display at the Morgan Library. Compiled all in one location, behold the full works of the mastermind behind Middle-Earth and its inhabitants. See the original manuscripts, world-building maps, designs, and illustrations all brought to life across Tolkien’s works.

Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be Deceiving

This must-see exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum showcases the life and works of renowned artist Frida Kahlo. Her personal artifacts are on display for the first time in the U.S. after being unearthed from her home in Mexico City. Together, the display of her artwork and personal effects provide a comprehensive picture of how culture, ethnicity, politics, and disability shaped her identity.

From A to B and Back Again

Don’t miss out on the iconic works of Andy Warhol, on display at the Whitney Museum through the end of March. This retrospective exhibit chronicles his legacy and explores how the American social and political context shaped his art. More than 300 of his pieces are on display, showcasing the breadth and variety of his work throughout his career. See his unmistakable portrayals of celebrities and everyday items, photography from his early days, and even some of his videography.

Dessert Goals

Got a sweet tooth and love desserts? Grab your tickets to this year’s annual Dessert Goals event in Long Island City. Sample a variety of desserts from more than 20 carefully curated vendors from all across the city. This year’s theme is Party Animals, so get ready for this interactive food festival to be filled with colorful displays paired with some animal flair, perfect for that photo-op. Freebies include complimentary treats from My/Mo Mochi Ice Cream and Red Vines + Sour Punch, complimentary beverages from Boxed Water, Sparkling Ice, Harmless Harvest + Chameleon Cold Brew, and a savory Salt Bar to cleanse your palate between desserts.

New York At Its Core

The newest exhibit on display at Museum of the City of New York explores the question, “What made New York, New York?” This collection of 450 historic objects and images–combined with contemporary video, photography, and digital experiences–highlights the stories of prominent and lesser known individuals that shaped New York’s identity (think Alexander Hamilton and Jay-Z vs. chief Penhawitz and Susie Rocco). The final gallery, the Future City Lab, is an immersive, hands-on space where guests are invited to delve into issues facing the city in the coming years. 

Macy’s Flower Show

March 24 – April 4

Get into the spring spirit and check out Macy’s annual flower show. This grand spectacle transforms the lobby of the Herald Square flagship location with its impressive floral arrangements and displays. Final details have yet to be released, but this year’s theme, “Journey to Paradisios,” is sure to feature breathtaking interstellar scenes, celestial representations, and out-of-this-world creatures.

The Orchid Show: Singapore

Hosted at the New York Botanical Garden, this year’s Orchid Show is a tribute to Singapore. Developed in partnership with Gardens by the Bay and Singapore Botanic Gardens, the show is an homage to Singapore’s national flower and the country’s iconic sites, like the dramatic Supertrees and famed Arches. Walk through the lofty displays featuring orchids of all sizes, shapes, and colors, and transport yourself to Singapore as you explore this National Orchid Garden lookalike.
