If you constantly have visitors in town, you’ve probably already made your rounds to all the Dallas museums and attractions, like the ones we outlined in our Dallas Moving Guide. Now that you’ve been there, done that, it’s time to mix it up. Instead of going to Reunion Tower (it’s probably your fifth time anyway), head to these 7 spots to show your guests some good, old-fashioned, Dallas fun.
Sip on unique cocktails

If you didn’t get enough cotton candy at the fair, head over to Peppersmash and grab yourself one of their specialties: a cotton candy martini. The drink is made of Skyy Citrus Vodka, lemon juice, vanilla syrup, champagne, and candy floss. If you think that’s cool, Peppersmash also makes shareable concoctions like the Galactus – acai berry liqueur, gin, Deep Eddy Vodka, Triple Sec, Bacardi, lime juice, and lemon juice.
Enjoy Klyde Warren Park

Aside from the staples you can enjoy daily at this downtown park (chess boards, children’s park, ping pong tables, dog park), Klyde Warren Park also hosts events like their Food Truck Rally, summer concerts, Zumba classes, and the annual Park & Palate food and wine festival. Even if you don’t live downtown, you can come here for free yoga classes, dance lessons, or just to simply relax on the lawn with a good book.
Eat your heart out at Trinity Groves

Although Dallas has certainly made a name for itself when it comes to BBQ and Tex-Mex, you’d be remiss if you didn’t explore the global cuisines at Trinity Groves. From the Latin American-inspired Chinese food at Chino to the Middle Eastern fare at Souk, the restaurants at this multi-use space will definitely please your palate. Check out their events page and stop by when live music or a pub crawl is happening.
Attend the longest-running state fair in the country

The end of September is Dallas’ time to shine. The largest-running state fair in the country and one of the largest (everything really is bigger in Texas) opens its gates on the last weekend of September and locals know it’s not something to miss. Head to Fair Park anytime during the 24 consecutive days it’s open and enjoy headliners and up and coming acts on the main stage, an assortment of yummy fair food, and games galore.
Peruse boutique shops in Bishop Arts District

Since the area’s renovation, the Bishop Arts District has become one of the most visited neighborhoods (for locals) in Dallas. Filled with locally-owned, independent shops, it often hosts wine walks and community events, so you’ll have no trouble finding something to do in this charming neighborhood. Emporium Pies, All Good Things, and Bishop Street Market are just a few of the places that make this district the friendly, quaint place that it is.
Explore the outdoors at White Rock Lake

Just five miles north of downtown, White Rock Lake is the perfect place to getaway from the city and enjoy the outdoors. There’s a walking/biking trail that encircles the lake, plus wetlands, dog parks, boat ramps, and picnic areas available to rent. Whether you want to hike, bike, fish, go boating on the water, or have a picnic, White Rock Lake is your spot.
Get your IPA fix at Celestial Beerworks

If you appreciate a good beer, head to Celestial Beerworks and get your drink on. Located in Oak Lawn, the heart of Dallas’ Medical District, the brewery has already received rave reviews for its hazy IPAs even though it opened just a year ago. The taproom is decked out in trendy furniture and kitschy decor, and the walls (interior and exterior) are covered in murals and design work. On a nice day, grab a seat at one of their picnic tables on the back patio and enjoy a brew in the sunshine. If you’re looking for a larger outdoor patio, head to Deep Ellum Brewery, one of the city’s best drinking spots.
Cut out the tourist traps and head straight for these spots. If you’re not a local yet, but you’re ready to call Dallas home, start searching thousands of apartments for rent on Zumper. You’ll be biking around White Rock Lake before you know it.
