Texas Rent vs. the 50 U.S. States
In our National Rent Report, we primarily analyze rental trends on the city level. This month we decided to also analyze at the state level, and will begin with Texas.

Texas has the 24th most expensive one-bedroom median rent when compared to the other 49 U.S. states. At $880, the state is 69.9% less expensive New York’s $2,925 median rent, and 57.1% less expensive than Massachusetts’s median rent of $2,050.

One bedroom median rent in Texas has decreased 7.4% month over month from March to April, while two bedroom median rent has decreased 5.3%.

6 Month Rent Trend: 5 Most Populous Texas Cities
All five of the most populous Texas cities, besides Houston, increased in rent from November to April. Houston one-bedroom rent has remained stable, when comparing November to April at $1,010, though fluctuations include a 4.7% increase to $1,060 from November to December and a 7.9% decrease from $1,090 in March to April.
Other cities since November include a 4.5% rent increase to $1,070 in Dallas, a 3.9% rent increase to $1,040 in Austin, a 7.2% increase to $830 in San Antonio, and a 5.1% rent increase to $790 in Fort Worth.

April Rent Trend: 30 Most Populous Texas Cities
There is a 63% difference for one bedroom median rent when comparing the most expensive and cheapest of the 30 most populous cities in Texas. The most expensive rent is in Midland at $1,350, while the least expensive rent is in Killeen and Abilene at $500.
Of the 30 cities analyzed, there is a 17% difference in the price of median one bedroom rent for Midland at $1,350, and Dallas at $1,120, which is the Texas city with the second most expensive rent.
When examining this data in aggregate, the median one bedroom rent for the 30 most populous cities in Texas is $750. Other monthly rental data points on the low end include Pasadena at $620, El Paso at $640, and Arlington at $660. Other expensive rents in Texas include Austin at $1,040, The Woodlands at $970, and Plano at $940.

Top 10 Most Expensive 1 Bedroom Median Rent in Texas
The most expensive one bedroom median rent in Texas is in Silver Spring. Rent is $1,838, which is 52.1% more expensive than the median Texas rent at $880. The top ten can be seen in the chart below.Top 10 Most Expensive 1 Bedroom Median Rent in Texas
Top 10 Least Expensive 1 Bedroom Median Rent in Texas
There is a 21.9% difference between the least expensive and 10th least expensive monthly rent in Texas.
The price of one bedroom median rent in Texas is 49.4% more expensive than in the city of Copperas Cove — which has the least expensive rent in Texas at $445.
The median rent among the ten least expensive cities in Texas is $535.
