Austin remained the 20th most expensive rental market in December, with the median for one bedrooms growing a slight 1.8% to $1,130 and the median for two bedrooms growing 2.1% to be $1,490. Although prices had fairly small increases this month, Austin’s one bedroom rents are up 13% year over year, making it the third fastest growing rental market in the nation.

The most expensive neighborhoods in Austin last month included Downtown Austin ($1,920), Old West Austin ($1,700), and East Cesar Chavez ($1,700). If you’re looking to live around central Austin but can’t afford the prices of the most expensive neighborhoods, West University ($1,050), South River City ($1,250), and Barton Hills ($1,270) are more affordable options close to the center of the city. Moving toward the northern periphery of the map, neighborhoods can be found priced between $800-$1,050.
