With every monthly national rent report we do, San Francisco consistently comes out on top as the priciest city in the U.S. As we pan out our scope internationally, with the help of Utinokati and Numbeo’s databases, San Francisco STILL holds its #1 rank as the most expensive in the world in terms of one bedroom rent.
The next priciest rent on this list outside of the United States was Hong Kong’s, which was still over $1,200 cheaper than San Francisco’s one bedroom rent. In Europe, London’s one bedroom rent nearly hit $2,000, while Paris’ one bedroom rent nested at around $1,300. Meanwhile Cape Town in South Africa and Montevideo in South America had rents below the $1,000 threshold.
Méthodologie
To determine the rents for these 10 international cities, we used a combination of sources including Zumper’s own rental database for the U.S. cities, along with Numbeo’s and Utinokati’s data for the rest. The reported one bedroom prices for Numbeo and Utinokati were converted to U.S. dollars for comparison.
