The Zumper Norfolk Metro Area Report analyzed active listings in November 2019 across 6 metro cities to show the most and least expensive cities and cities with the fastest growing rents. The Virginia one bedroom median rent was $1,253 last month.

– Portsmouth was the most expensive city with one bedrooms priced at $1,200.

– Chesapeake rent remained at $1,140 and was the second priciest city.

-Virginia Beach was third with rent dropping 5.4% to $1,050.

–Newport News ranked as the most affordable city with one bedrooms priced at $890.

–Hampton was second with rent at $900.

–Norfolk rent grew 2.2% to $920 and was the third least expensive.

–Chesapeake had the fastest growing rent, up 15.2% since this time last year.

–Norfolk saw rent climb 15.0%, making it the second fastest growing.

–Portsmouth was third with rent growing 6.2%.
