The Zumper New York City Metro Area Report analyzed active listings in September 2019 across 30 metro cities to show the most and least expensive cities and cities with the fastest growing rents. The New York one bedroom median rent was $1,988 last month.

The Most Expensive
–New York City was the most expensive city with one bedrooms priced at $2,970.
–Hoboken rent grew 2.4% last month to $2,590 and ranked as the second priciest city.
–Fort Lee was third with rent priced at $2,480.
The Least Expensive
–Kingston ranked as the most affordable city with one bedrooms priced at $1,110.
–Bridgeport was second with rent at $1,130.
–East Orange ranked as third with rent down 0.9% to $1,150.

The Fastest Growing (Y/Y%)
–Newburgh had the fastest growing rent, up 15.7% since this time last year.
–Paterson saw rent climb 15.5%, making it the second fastest growing.
–Yonkers was third with rent growing 15.2%.
The Fastest Growing (M/M%)
–Elizabeth had the largest monthly rental growth rate, up 5.3%.
–Newark rent jumped 5.0% last month, making it the second fastest growing.
–New Brunswick ranked as third with rent up 4.4%.
