Mapping NYC Rent Prices This Spring (2016)

Despite a slight drop in rent prices last month, NYC remains the second most expensive city for renters in the United States. But not everywhere is as expensive as that Tribeca loft you’ve been eyeing. To find the cheapest and most expensive areas to rent in the city, we analyzed tens of thousands of rental listings and mapped out prices across both Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Manhattan

Hovering above the $4,000 threshold, the most expensive Manhattan neighborhoods for renters are currently Nomad ($4,500), Tribeca ($4,400), and Greenwich Village ($4,100). More affordable options, priced at less than $2,800, include Upper East Side ($2,740), Lower East Side ($2,610), and East Harlem ($2,250).

Brooklyn

At a median price of $3,925 for one bedroom units, DUMBO is currently the most expensive Brooklyn neighborhood for renters. Vinegar Hill ($3,750), Williamsburg ($3,150), and Brooklyn Heights ($3,100) are the next priciest areas to rent. More affordable options include Ocean Hill, Brownsville, and East Flatbush.
