How to Transform Your Home Interior With Color

Editor’s note: this is a guest post written by Bobbi Edwards, for www.conceptsandcolorways.com

Are you finding yourself depressed by your home’s living spaces? It happens to us all at one time or another. You come home after a long day at work and want to be happy to be there. But instead, you wish you were somewhere else.

Maybe your kitchen is so dated, you feel like you’re visiting your grandma. Or, your living room is such a bright shade of lavender, it looks like a fairy princess lives there. Maybe your shelves are just so cluttered and bland, your living room looks more like a disorganized storage space.

No doubt, living situations like this can get you down. But, they don’t have to. There’s a secret weapon you can use to fix these problems and that weapon is color. Choosing the right color palette for your rooms is the key to transforming your home to the inviting oasis you want it to be.

But, don’t take my word for it. Let’s have a look at some examples of rooms that have been remodeled with the help of a well planned color palette. Below are three projects from the DecorAid portfolio that clearly show the transformative power of color.

From Dated Kitchen to a Country Modern Masterpiece

This kitchen started out with a typical country look with it’s honey oak woods and neutral color palette. It’s a nice enough space, but it has a dated feel to it and there really isn’t anything that sets it apart from any other honey oak kitchen out there. If you’re a fan of modern interiors, this look just isn’t going to get the job done.

But, look what happens when you apply a brand new color palette to this kitchen with a pop of bright red. It’s hard to believe it’s even the same space. The dark reclaimed wood feature wall contrasts with the white walls and countertop to create a modern statement that’s hard to resist. Then, those bright red chairs come in and steal the show. The taupe tones and black accents add warmth to the room. It’s an inviting space that feels both trendy and cozy.

From Fairy Princess Bedroom to a Sophisticated Living Area

Okay, I’m sure there’s a little girl out there that really loved this lavender bedroom. But, this look isn’t for everyone. Especially mature adults looking for a sophisticated hang out spot after a long day at work. When looking at this room, it’s hard to imagine it being anything than a little girl’s bedroom.

But, look what happens when the bold lavender walls are replaced with a soft gray tone and white trim. That’s quite a change with just the switch of wall color. The designer used a neutral color palette of warm beige, grayish-brown, slate blue, warm black, mauve and dark blue to accent the room. These colors all come together in just the right way to create the grown-up retreat the owner’s were looking for.

From Cluttered Home Office to a Trendy Living Room

This project had a common problem. How do you tame the clutter that inevitably accumulates on the bookcases in a home? This room started out with an overstuffed built-in bookcase. There’s no sense of style in the space and the color palette is not the slightest bit inviting.

But, look what happens when the walls and bookcases are painted a crisp white color and the shelves are styled with colorful objects. Wow! The mustard yellow accent pieces add a touch of style to the room and the coral red details bring the room to life. The designer also used light tan, copper bronze, warm beige and black to create an inviting room that welcome the owner’s home.
