If your shower resembles a swamp more than a spa, then it’s definitely time for a good deep clean. Even mucky old showers that seem to have lived past their prime can be revitalized to look like they are brand new. With a few cleaning hacks, you can transform your shower into a sparkling clean place to refresh and revive.
The beautiful thing about these cleaning hacks is they make the process easier than you may think, and they include simple ingredients that most households already have on-hand. (Hint: if you’re not already stocked up on vinegar and baking soda, then you’ll want to run to the store real quick before trying these shower-cleaning tricks).
Start With Your Shower Head
Start your shower revitalization at the top by reclaiming your shower head. After years of running water and splashy suds, a shower head can get pretty ugly. Mineral deposits build up into unsightly colonies of hardened grit and grime, blocking water spray and making for a less-than-luxurious cleansing experience. However, this mess can be dissolved easily by soaking the shower head in vinegar and baking soda overnight. For this method, you will need vinegar, baking soda, a rubber band and a large ziplock bag (or a small trash bag, depending on how big your shower head is). Mix a 1:3 ratio of baking soda to vinegar. Put the mixture in the bag, then use the rubber band to secure it over the shower head. Let it sit overnight, allowing the mixture to work like an acid eating away at all the accumulated mineral deposits. In the morning, wipe away any leftover residue and let the water run while you enjoy your sparkling-new shower head and renewed water pressure!
The Drain
Cleaning the shower drain might not sound like fun, but this method is akin to making your grade-school volcano in science class. Begin by boiling a pot of water. Pour the boiling water down the drain. Add a ½ cup of baking soda, then pour a mixture of 1 cup vinegar and 1 cup hot water down after it. As the reaction creates a “volcano” effect and starts bubbling up out of the drain, put the drain cover on to let science work its magic down below. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, then flush with boiling water one more time. Any smelly, scummy buildup that once existed in your pipes will be fizzled away, improving drainage and all future cleanups.
The Walls, Floors and Door
Keeping shower walls, floors, tubs, doors and curtains clean is a constant battle. However, no matter what type of shower you have, the fix is super easy. Add a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to your shower caddy. Because it is free from harsh chemicals, you can use the magic eraser while you’re still in the shower, giving the walls, floors and door a quick scrub after each rinse. Alternatively, you can also keep a soft scrub brush and a bottle of vinegar in there, using the same method to remove soap scum, mold and mildew daily after your normal shower routine. After you’re done, leave the door or shower curtain open to allow everything to dry out, and you’ll have a super-fresh clean shower to step into every single day!
