Mother’s Day is one of the best holidays for DIY decor – because any craft made by you is extra special in mom’s eyes. While most DIY decorations can save you some money, they are the exact opposite of cheap-looking. They are personal, they are more in-tune with your own mother’s version of beauty, and the love you put into them is worth more than any price tag.
That being said, these easy DIY decorations can be created within a day or two, giving you plenty of time to clean, cook, and get ready to celebrate your mom… perhaps by hosting a homemade brunch in her honor!
Shabby Chic Display
Stop by your local craft store to pick up some unfinished wooden letters and paint. Then use a light brushing technique to create this lovely shabby-chic display. Most suppliers will be able to set you up for less than $10.

Stringed Photos
Go oldschool with some polaroid-style stringed photos of mom being mom. Print out as many pics as you can find, then hang them up using clothespins and string. If you’re planning a brunch, then place them where they can be admired during the meal, but won’t get in the way when you are trying eat.

Flowers!
Flowers are the most fun decoration to work with – and double as a gift for your mom to take home. You can stick them in a mason jar, a tea kettle, a basket, a custom wooden box, or even a wine bottle. You can pin them to the walls to spell out M-O-M, or you can string them from the ceiling for hanging displays. Or, you can simply toss them on a breakfast tray for a simple-yet-classy breakfast in bed. For a decorative brunch bouquet, try to find some fresh cut lavender or other aromatic flower that will compliment your culinary masterpiece.

DIY Chalkboard
The DIY chalkboard is another one of those decorations that doubles as a gift – because every mom needs a chalkboard in her life. This is surprisingly easy to make, too. All you need is an old piece of wood and some chalkboard paint from Home Depot (or any other home improvement store). Then bust out the chalk, write your message, draw some pretty designs or pictures, and viola! A gift/decoration from the heart!

Of course, the best thing for any mom to see on Mother’s Day is her children, so be sure to put on some nice clothes and a big smile. Because that’s what it’s all about!
