The Zumper Chicago Metro Area Report analyzed active listings in August 2019 across 15 metro cities to show the most and least expensive cities and cities with the fastest growing rents. The Illinois one bedroom median rent was $1,135 last month.

–Downers Grove was the most expensive city with one bedrooms priced at $1,630.
–Chicago rent dropped 1.4% last month to $1,450 and ranked as the second priciest city.
–Wheaton was third with rent priced at $1,300.

–Joliet ranked as the most affordable city with one bedrooms priced at $750.
–Aurora was second with rent at $1,080.
–Elgin ranked as third with rent up 3.7% last month to $1,120.

–Elgin had the fastest growing rent, up 15.5% since this time last year.
–Skokie saw rent climb 13.2%, making it the second fastest growing.
–Wheaton was third with rent growing 12.1%
