The Zumper Chicago Metro Area Report analyzed active listings in September 2019 across 13 metro cities to show the most and least expensive cities and cities with the fastest growing rents. The Illinois one bedroom median rent was $1,132 last month.

The Most Expensive
–Glenview was the most expensive city with one bedrooms priced at $1,860.
–Wheeling rent dropped 5.4% last month to $1,580 and ranked as the second priciest city.
–Chicago was third with rent priced at $1,430.
The Least Expensive
–Aurora ranked as the most affordable city with one bedrooms priced at $1,040.
–Elgin was second with rent at $1,060.
–Des Plaines ranked as third with rent down 0.9% to $1,120.

The Fastest Growing (Y/Y%)
–Wheeling had the fastest growing rent, up 15.3% since this time last year.
–Skokie and Arlington Heights both saw rent climb 14.4%, making them tied for the second fastest growing.
–Elgin was third with rent jumping 14.0%
The Fastest Growing (M/M%)
–Schaumburg had the largest monthly rental growth rate, up 2.4%.
–Arlington Heights rent jumped 1.6% last month, making it the second fastest growing.
–Glenview ranked as third with rent up 0.5%.
