The Zumper Chicago Metro Area Report analyzed active listings in October 2019 across 12 metro cities to show the most and least expensive cities and cities with the fastest growing rents. The Illinois one bedroom median rent was $1,113 last month.

The Most Expensive
–Wheeling was the most expensive city with one bedrooms priced at $1,490.
–Chicago rent grew 1.4% to $1,450 and ranked as the second priciest city.
–Schaumburg was third with rent priced at $1,270.
The Least Expensive
–Aurora ranked as the most affordable city with one bedrooms priced at $980.
–Valparaiso was second with rent at $1,010.
–Elgin ranked as third with rent dropping 2.8% to $1,030.

The Fastest Growing (Y/Y%)
–Aurora had the fastest growing rent, up 15.3% since this time last year.
–Wheeling saw rent climb 12.0%, making it the second fastest growing.
–Arlington Heights was third with rent growing 8.7%
The Fastest Growing (M/M%)
–Skokie had the largest monthly rental growth rate, up 4.2%.
–Des Plaines rent jumped 1.8% last month, making it the second fastest growing.
–Chicago ranked as third with rent up 1.4%.
