The Zumper Chicago Metro Report analyzed over 65,000 active listings in April across 15 metro cities to show the most and least expensive cities and cities with the fastest growing rents.

The Most Expensive

Chicago, Illinois was the most expensive city to rent in the metro area. One bedroom rent here was priced at a median of $1,680.

Arlington Heights, IL ranked as the second most expensive city with rent at $1,510.

Wheaton, IL rent was third priciest at $1,360.

The Least Expensive

Joilet, IL was the most affordable city in the metro area with one bedroom rent at $690.

Kenosha, WI followed suit as the second least expensive city with rent at $770.

Waukegan, IL ranked as the third least expensive. Rent here was $870.

The Fastest Growing (Y/Y%)

Arlington Heights, IL had the fastest growing rent with the price of one bedroom units up 15.3% since this time last year.

Kenosha, WI was close behind Arlington with a 14.9% yearly growth rate.

Elgin, IL rent ranked as the third fastest growing, up 14.8% since this time last year.

The Fastest Growing (M/M%)

Kenosha, WI rent was the fastest growing since last month, up 5.5%.

Arlington Heights, IL followed close behind with a 4.9% monthly growth rate.

Joliet, IL had the third fastest growing rent, climbing 4.5% since last month.
