Chicago Metro Report: January 2020

The Zumper Chicago Metro Area Report analyzed active listings in December 2019 across 17 metro cities to show the most and least expensive cities and cities with the fastest growing rents. The Illinois one bedroom median rent was $1,098 last month.

The Most Expensive

–Glenview was the most expensive city with one bedrooms priced at $1,850.

–Chicago rent grew 3.5% to $1,490 and ranked as the second priciest city.

–Lombard was third with rent at $1,320.

The Least Expensive

–Michigan City ranked as the most affordable city with one bedrooms priced at $670.

–Berwyn was second with rent at $890.

–Valparaiso saw rent drop 5.2% to $910 and was the third least expensive city.

The Fastest Growing (Y/Y%)

–Oak Park had the fastest growing rent, up 10.6% since this time last year.

–Berwyn saw rent climb 8.5%, making it the second fastest growing.

–Park Ridge was third with rent climbing 6.2%.

The Fastest Growing (M/M%)

–Wheaton had the largest monthly rental growth rate, up 5.2%.

–Arlington rent jumped 4.0% last month, making it the second fastest growing.

–Chicago ranked as third with rent jumping 3.5%.
