Chicago Metro Report: February 2020

The Zumper Chicago Metro Area Report analyzed active listings in January 2020 across 17 metro cities to show the most and least expensive cities and cities with the fastest growing rents. The Illinois one bedroom median rent was $1,107 last month.

The Most Expensive

–Wheeling was the most expensive city with one bedrooms priced at $1,660.

–Chicago rent grew 2.0% to $1,520 and ranked as the second priciest city.

–Arlington Heights was third with rent at $1,350.

The Least Expensive

–Michigan City ranked as the most affordable city with one bedrooms priced at $700.

–Maywood was second with rent at $800.

–Valparaiso rent dropped 5.5% to $860 and ranked as the third least expensive.

The Fastest Growing (Y/Y%)

–Wheeling had the fastest growing rent, up 12.9% since this time last year.

–Oak Park saw rent climb 11.0%, making it the second fastest growing.

–Park Ridge was third with rent climbing 6.8%

The Fastest Growing (M/M%)

–Park Ridge had the largest monthly rental growth rate, up 5.0%.

–Oak Park and Schaumburg rents both jumped 4.8% last month, making them tied for the the second fastest growing.

–Arlington Heights ranked as third with rent increasing 4.7%.
