The Zumper Chicago Metro Area Report analyzed active listings in November 2019 across 17 metro cities to show the most and least expensive cities and cities with the fastest growing rents. The Illinois one bedroom median rent was $1,098 last month.

The Most Expensive
–Chicago was the most expensive city with one bedrooms priced at $1,440.
–Wheeling rent dropped 6.0% to $1,400 and ranked as the second priciest city.
–Lombard was third with rent at $1,300.
The Least Expensive
–Joliet ranked as the most affordable city with one bedrooms priced at $860.
–Berwyn was second with rent at $890.
–Valparaiso ranked as third with rent down 5.0% to $960.

The Fastest Growing (Y/Y%)
–Wheeling had the fastest growing rent, up 15.7% since this time last year.
–Joliet saw rent climb 14.7%, making it the second fastest growing.
–Park Ridge was third with rent jumping 6.2%.
The Fastest Growing (M/M%)
–Naperville had the largest monthly rental growth rate, up 3.4%.
–Des Plaines rent increased 1.8% last month, making it the second fastest growing.
–Oak Park ranked as third with rent up 0.8%.
