This May, Boston ranked as the 4th most expensive rental market in the nation, just after San Jose. The prices of one and two bedroom units were $2,200 and $2,600, respectively.

South Boston Waterfront ($3,000), Downtown Boston ($2,900), and Back Bay ($2,850) were the most expensive neighborhoods to rent this spring. More affordable rentals, priced under $2,000, could be found in Dorchester, Allston, and Mission Hill.
On the other end of the cost spectrum, Mattapan ($1,350), West Roxbury ($1,600), and Roslindale ($1,600) were the most affordable neighborhoods to rent.
