The Zumper Boston Metro Report analyzed over 78,000 active listings in April across the 16 metro cities to show the most and least expensive cities and cities with the fastest growing rents.
Cities Ranked by Rent
Le plus cher
–Cambridge, MA was the most expensive city to rent in the metro area again. The price of one bedroom units grew 0.4% to a median of $2,360 this month.
–Brookline, MA, close behind Cambridge, ranked as the second priciest city. Rent here increased $50 since last month to $2,300.
–Boston, Massachusetts rent remained flat at $2,200.
Le moins cher
–Fall River, MA rent grew by $30 since last month, bringing it to $870. Despite increasing prices, this city remained the most affordable in the metro area.
–Worcester, MA prices grew 1.8% since last month to $1,150. Rent here was the second least expensive.
–Brockton, MA had the third least expensive rent at $1,230.
Yearly Growth

–Lawrence, MA rent had the largest yearly growth rate, up 15.2%.
–Brockton & Haverhill, MA prices were tied for the second fastest growing since last year, both climbing 15%.
–Malden, MA had the third fastest growing rent, jumping 11.3% since this time last year.

–Quincy, MA rent was the fastest growing since last month, increasing 5.2%.
–Lawrence, MA followed closely behind with the second fastest growing rent, up 5.1%.
–Malden, MA had the third largest monthly growth rate, climbing 5%.
