The Zumper Boston Metro Report analyzed active listings in May across 16 metro cities to show the most and least expensive cities and cities with the fastest growing rents.
Cities Ranked By Rent
Le plus cher
–Cambridge, MA rent grew $10 since last month to $2,350 and continued to rank as the most expensive in the metro area.
–Brookline, MA rent dropped $10 to $2,290 but the city held onto its position as the second priciest city.
–Boston, Massachusetts remained third with rent at $2,200.
Le moins cher
–Fall River, MA rent dropped $30 since last month to $840 and the city stayed the most affordable in the metro area.
–Worcester, MA ranked as the second least expensive city with one bedroom units priced at $1,150.
–Brockton, MA rent grew $20 to $1,250 and ranked as the third most affordable.
Rent Growth

–Lawrence, Brockton, & Haverhill, MA had the fastest growing rents since last year, all up around 15%.
–Malden, MA rent was the second fastest growing, climbing 13.3% since this time last year.
–Medford, MA had more modest yearly growth, up 5.5%.

–Newton, MA was the only city with a large rent spike since last month, growing 4.4%.
