7 Winter Cocktails for the Holiday Season

It’s that time of year again; the holiday season is upon us. You know what that means: holiday parties, festive work events, and plenty of cold weather are headed your way. What better way to celebrate the season than with some winter cocktails? We’ve compiled a list of a few of our favorites that will get you in the holiday spirit. Tanqueray Amaretto

This drink might just make you feel like you’re back in the Mad Men era. Combine gin (Tanqueray recommended), amaretto, and a splash of bitters in an ice-filled highball glass. Top with sour mix and add maraschino cherries for garnish. The juniper-forward gin flavor is perfect for the winter season and the almond flavor in the amaretto will add a touch of sweetness. This recipe is great for a holiday party or festive event.

Cinnamon Spice Sangria

There are plenty of recipes out there that will make the perfect sangria. The common denominator in all of them? A few cinnamon sticks. Check out this one from the Food Network, which, along with cinnamon sticks, includes Cointreau and red wine-soaked pears, oranges, apples, and cranberries. Best of all, it’ll only take 20 minutes of prep time. Or, check out this unique recipe which not only combines brandy, red wine, and club soda, but calls for raisins, honey, vanilla bean, and, of course, cinnamon sticks. Whichever recipe you pick, it’ll be hard to go wrong with any one that includes cinnamon spice.

Italian Buck

Looking for a little out of the ordinary this winter season? Enter the Italian Buck, created by Jamie Boudreau of Canon in Seattle. You’ll want to start by grabbing a shaker and a highball glass for this one. In the shaker, combine 1 1/2 ounces Cynar, 1 1/2 ounces Montenegro, 3/4 ounce fresh lime juice and shake. Pour it into an ice-filled highball glass and top it all off with 2 to 3 ounces of ginger beer. Garnish with lime wheel, if desired, and you have yourself a bittersweet drink perfect for any snow day in your cozy apartment.

Hot White Russian

You’ve probably heard of the classic White Russian recipe (vodka, Kahlua, milk, and ice), but since it’s the holiday season, why not make it more of a winter cocktail? Use all the go-to ingredients of a classic White Russian and add freshly-brewed coffee to them, omit the ice, and top it all off with a little whipped cream or mini marshmallows. You’ll love this cozy take on a reliable favorite.

Pomegranate and Ginger Spritzer

Transport yourself back to summer (in your heated apartment) with this tequila-based spritzer. Although this recipe calls for homemade pomegranate juice, you can just purchase it in bottle if you’re low on time. Combine your favorite tequila with 2 tablespoons lime or lemon juice, a 5cm piece of fresh-sliced ginger, pomegranate juice, a lime wedge, and pomegranate seeds for garnish. This refreshing drink will warm you right up, and help you remember what summer felt like.

Hot Gin Toddy

While you’re on the gin train, go ahead and try this delicious, warm gin-based hot toddy. You won’t need much to make this drink: gin, lemon juice, a pinch of sugar or honey, hot water, and the ubiquitous cinnamon stick.
