Well, it’s that time of year again. Spring has sprung and warmer weather is (supposedly) on its way. Before summer hits and all productivity flies out the window in favor of beach days and vacations, now is a good time to get your spring cleaning out of the way. Follow these simple spring cleaning hacks and rejuvenate your apartment just in time for summer.
1. Upcycle and Repurpose

Maybe you’re not ready to part with that old mason jar that was once filled with homemade jam, or perhaps you just have a hard time getting the empty coffee container to the garbage. There are plenty of ways to upcycle your old belongings and stuff you might otherwise consider trash. Take a good look at the items in your apartment and consider giving some of them a second life.
2. Give Your Fridge Some TLC

Although an easily forgotten appliance, the fridge deserves to be put on the cleaning list once in a while. Start by tossing out all your expired condiments, dairy products, and produce. Then, give the shelves a good scrubbing with some DIY vinegar cleaner. You’ll have a cleaner fridge and more space to store fresh ingredients for dinner (and the wine to go with it). Don’t forget to clean your other apartment appliances while you’re at it; they need some love, too.
3. Donate and Sell
Take a tip from Marie Kondo and get rid of the things that don’t bring you joy. Take a look at that shirt you never wear or the jeans from high school that no longer fit. There are a number of places that accept clothing donations of all types, especially if the items are still in good condition. Maybe you’re not using that old desk or you have a book collection that could be slimmed down–selling items you don’t use anymore can make space in your apartment and also provide a little extra income for the upcoming weekend.
4. Set a Timer

Short on time or simply don’t want to spend all day indoors sprucing things up? Set a timer on your phone, home device, watch, or alarm clock, and you’ll be more cognizant of how much time you’ve spent on certain tasks, in each room, and just cleaning in general. You might also find that you’re more focused on the task at hand simply from knowing that you’re being timed.
5. Finally Get Rid of Pet Hair
Got a furry friend? Then you must constantly be dealing with their pet hair everywhere. Grab a rubber cleaning glove and easily pick up your pet’s shedding. The grip on the gloves is perfect for grabbing that fur on your couch, bed, or floor with minimal effort and no chemicals.
6. Make Your Pots and Pans Look Brand New

If you’ve ever burned the bottom of a cooking pan, you’re in good company. Luckily, there’s a solution. Fill the pan with water, add two cups of vinegar, and put it on high heat. Once it’s boiled, remove from heat and add two tablespoons of baking soda. Poof, the burn disappears. This is definitely an easy win and one you should include on your cleaning list.
7. Lint Roll Your Lamp Shade
Lamp shades attract a surprisingly large amount of dust, and there’s no better way to remove it than by using a lint roller with sticky sheets. The best part is that you can simply toss the sheet once you’re done, so clean-up is as simple as it gets.
While your daily, and even weekly, cleaning list might include things that should be done frequently, these tips will help you decide what to prioritize and how to organize your spring cleaning this year. Now go get your apartment ready for summer so you can enjoy those beach days and vacations ASAP.
