If you are just recently the owner of a new apartment, you are also recently the owner of some new struggles. Here are six of the applications that we found most useful for new apartment owners:
1. Homejoy
You’ve just moved into your apartment, the boxes have all been recycled and all your furniture is properly placed. One problem: your floors are covered in dust and your Siamese cat has attracted so much dust that your friends think he is “fluffy.” What do you do? Homejoy is a website and mobile app that allows you to book a home cleaning appointment within a matter of days. All you have to do is specify the amount of rooms you want clean, the time you want it done in, the tasks you want completed, whether you have pets and a few other yes or no questions. Who needs a broom when you have an app? Homejoy is available to customers for download on iOS and for house cleaners on both iOS and Android for free.
2. Handy
To get a good idea of what Handy is, just add a couple of “handy” people to what Homejoy provides, and you’ve got yourself an extremely useful mobile app. If you have that one light bulb you can’t reach or the only tool you know how to use is the “Spelling and Grammar” button on your Google Docs toolbar, use Handy to call yourself a repair person to help out. Handy is free on iOS and Android .
3. Home Design 3D
With Home Design 3D, you can change the architecture of your home with the drag of a finger. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars for a remodeler to tell you that your door doesn’t fit the methods of Feng Shui, use Home Design 3D to figure out whether it does on your own. Home Design 3D costs $9.99 on the iTunes App Store and is available for a freemium on Android.
4. TaskRabbit
Did you just move into your place? No car? No friends? No worries! TaskRabbit will be your friend. TaskRabbit allows you to choose tasks such as personal assistance, organizing your things, deliveries, moving help, furniture assemblies and home repairs. So, you just moved in and you have everything –your bed, a new bed frame, that cool lamp that you got from West Elm. But you’re missing one important thing–toilet paper. 5. Houzz
This website and mobile app is for those of us who can’t tell the difference between a duvet and a table cloth. Houzz offers a multitude of photos where you can find inspiration, a search engine for decorating professionals and a store where you can find a wide selection of charming products to decorate your new apartment. Houzz can be downloaded on iTunes and Android for free.
6. Washio
Don’t have a laundry room? No worries. Washio will do all of your laundry and dry cleaning and deliver it back to you the next day. With Washio, you won’t be forced to go to work in your sweatpants – you’ll have real grown-up clothes to match your real grown-up apartment. Washio can be downloaded for free on iOS and Android.
