Bring the Fall Scent (and Flavor!) to Your Home

Bring the smell of a delicious DIY pumpkin spice latte to your apartment by creating a homemade room deodorizer. You probably already have most of the ingredients necessary to make this fall-scented mixture, too. Start by putting cinnamon sticks, apple slices, and whole cloves in a pot of water and simmer on low. Once the spices start to heat up, your home will  begin to be filled with the aromas of fall. Drain the water and transfer the dried out spices and fruits in a bowl. Place the bowls in your bathroom or living room to really spread the fall cheer throughout your apartment. To enjoy this scent even more, swap out the water for red wine and brandy, and a few more tasty ingredients, and make a mulled wine that you can sip on outside on a crisp, fall day.

Festive Displays with Pumpkins and Gourds

Head to your local pumpkin patch and pick up a few pumpkins (big and small) and a couple gourds. Getting these at the pumpkin patch instead of at the grocery or corner store eliminates the upcharge since you’re buying directly from the source. Plus, many pumpkin patches have corn mazes, hayrides for the kids, and snacks–like caramel apples and hot cider–for sale. Not only can you get your fall decorations, you can have some fun while doing it.

Grab a wicker basket from any craft store and fill it with your purchases from the pumpkin patch. Add a few (artificial or real) sunflowers, corn cobs, or hay and create a display on your fireplace or dining room table to create the perfect fall aesthetic in your apartment.

Painted Acorns

This fun, DIY fall decoration is a very inexpensive one; you’ll just need to collect some acorns to get started! After you’ve found as many acorns as you’d like, pop them in a 140-degree oven for about 2 hours. Once they’ve cooled, grab some acrylic paint in whatever colors you’d like (orange, yellow, reds are great for fall) and start painting the nut itself. If the tops pop off, that’s ok; just glue them back on with a hot glue gun or simply toss them and grab few more from outside. Place the finished, painted acorns in a bowl, glass vase, or any other transparent container to display them this fall season.

Jack-O’-Lanterns

Nothing feels more like fall than Halloween and all that comes with it. Once you’ve bought your pumpkins, grab some kitchen utensils, scoop out the seeds, and carve up your version of a perfect Halloween jack-o-lantern. If you’re looking to get a little more creative, head to the grocery or party supply store and grab some pumpkin stencil books. Design your own haunted house, ghostly ghoul, or spooky black cat to display proudly on your doorstep.

These cute, inexpensive fall decorations are so versatile they can be used in many different ways. Offer them to dinner party guests for a photo opp or put them in a vase at the entry way to welcome everyday visitors with some fall cheer. To make them, you’ll just need to buy wooden kabob sticks and cardstock. Simply trace the words you want to use on your signs and cut them out of the cardstock, making sure every letter is connected to the one next to it. Glue the cardstock to the stick and you have a cute, cheap fall decoration to use for years to come.

Get ready for the changing of the season with these fall decorations for your apartment. You won’t regret making your space warm and inviting!
