If you're looking for a nice place to rent in Vinton, this is def a great place. They've always been so nice to us and it's super family friendly and nice and clean, it has been taken over by new management and they have fixed any issues that previous people have had with, we have lived here since April of 2023 and it's always been nice but now much better with new management, especially Heather she's been such a amazing help! Def should be anyone's go to looking for a cute homey apartment in Vinton! We will miss Billy Byrd so much!

I was excited to move into this beautiful landmark in Vinton. No building is perfect and when I first moved in there were some hiccups, to be expected from any new building (for example, my dishwasher didn't function). The patience I once had with this place has, unfortunately, run out. I have yet to have working AC (over the past weekend it was 86 in one of my bedrooms), the dumpster continues to be a sticking point for me as other tenants seem incapable of getting trash into the dumpster (see included photos). This isn’t merely a one time issue, it is a weekly issue. Early this year I discovered (what I believe to be) Mac and Cheese in the hallway on the first floor, left overnight (I checked the next morning, it was still there). Last week I was walking down the steps and saw a yellowish liquid, near the first-floor landing, that had the faint odor of urine. When I first attempted to run my AC several months back, the first thing I noticed was a rather large puddle of water in my master bedroom closet. Turns out, the drainage pipe going down inside the wall wasn’t connected (see photos). The security system used by the building doesn't seem to have an on-premise backup (at least it didn't as of a month ago when I was locked out of the building), and any time the power or internet went out to the building, you aren't getting back in. Back in the winter, on a particularly cold night, a neighbor had to start yelling at windows with lights on to be able to get back in after walking her dog. During a rather rainy period a couple of months back, noticeable leaks formed (see pictures) near where the mailboxes are, and when I reported them, I was told they had known for “months” about them. While I haven’t looked for a couple of weeks (it hasn’t rained for a while), they hadn’t been fixed as of last month (June 2020). This poses health risks in falling debris and the potential for black mold. It is quite sad, as the building has a lot of potential, but the laziness of the tenants to clean up after themselves, and the amount of time to fix anything here has become utterly unacceptable. I simply cannot in good faith recommend this apartment building to anyone. [edit 7/15/20] I wanted to make a quick update regarding two points: (1) Hall is trying to keep the dumpster clean. I want to stress that the mess isn't on them. They have the dumpster emptied twice a week. (2) I've added a photo a show that there is possible mold already growing on the ceiling in the hallway near the mailboxes. If this is indeed black mold, this can cause serious health problems. I have asthma, and this is serious concern for me and others in the building like me. I hope these issues will be resolved in the near future. The building is beautiful and the interior is unique and the location is amazing. Being on the east side of the building, I am treated to an amazing sunrise each morning. But the mounting issues are outweighing the positives of this place.

So I've lived here since the building opened, and there have been a few issues and I'm going to try and cover them here. I have no problems with Hall residential and they've done their best to deal with these problems. All of the current issues are with other tenants and not Hall. The dumpster constantly gets filled up because people don't know how to read. There are signs that state the dumpster is for household trash only, yet people are always putting boxes and other junk out there causing it to fill before trash day and we have to put our trash on the side sometimes. The security system sometimes locks people out but I don't think that's happened in a while. You have to pay for upper lot parking but they aren't assigned spots so you aren't guaranteed a close spot. There are also 3 spots labeled for future tenants but get used as an unloading zone for groceries, however some people think it's okay to park there over night and take all the spots, so if you have groceries or furniture you're out of luck . There were some previous issues with some leaking and damage caused by it but they've been fixed since then. There's 2 buildings. The main building and a smaller building behind it, its separated by a breezeway. My apartment looks out onto the breezeway and this has been very annoying because there's a couple tenants back there who have crazy loud vehicles that rev their engines all the time, and if anyone is out there talking or being noisy, you can clearly hear them through your window. People also park out there all the time even though they've been told they aren't supposed to, Hall has sent out like 2 letters addressing this but people don't listen. The doors to the units themselves have windows, they aren't see through but there is a constant light that will shine in through it. My unit doesn't have a door to the bedroom its just open space, so we always have that light shining in on us. Lastly, most of the tenants here have dogs, big and small, and almost all of them do the off leash thing. Now, most of them are great and are well trained, but a couple of them will just run up to you and even jump up on you while their owner really does nothing other then call for them. I love dogs, and I don't mind if I have a dog run up to me or jump on me but I know some people are scared of dogs so I figured I would mention this. Overall, most issues I've had have been fixed if they could be, and I love the building and I have met a lot of nice people here. I just figured I'd put this all out here. Who knows, maybe some of the other tenants will read this 🤔
