Floor plans

One Bedroom1 bed1 bathOriginally constructed in 1926, the Beattyville Grade School enjoyed a rich history prior to its new life as an apartment community for seniors. The Beattyville School was originally built for grades 1-12, and it continued to serve grades 1-5 until 1969 when it was converted to function as both the Administrative Board Building and Maintenance Plant. The Beattyville Grade School also housed the first public educational radio station in the United States which was established to serve a rural population. The call letters WBKY operated out of the station near the Beattyville School Stage from 1940-1941, when the lack of reception made it impossible to continue operations. The station moved to Lexington and kept the WBKY call letters until 1989 when it switched to the call letter WUKY. The school was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. The original classrooms have been carefully and expertly transformed into comfortable apartments which include all modern systems and amenities. The apartments feature high ceilings, large new windows, spacious closets, individually controlled thermostats, and fully equipped kitchens. Many apartments enjoy the lasting craftsmanship of unusual quarter sawn wood floors, attesting to the precision of a bygone era. There are 18 gracious apartments in total with 12 one-bedroom units and 6 two-bedroom units. Most apartments are fully accessible with a new elevator that serves all floors. The original radio station room has been preserved and the furnished Community Room will serve all residents. The Beattyville School Apartments offer convenient, comfortable, and affordable living through financing from the Kentucky Housing Corporation as well as the Federation of Appalachian Housing Enterprises, Inc. Income and age restrictions will apply for all apartments. Accepts Section 8.
