I moved here from the Chicago area a month ago and the entire staff was extremely helpful working with my mother who was helping me pack up in move in less than a month for a work transfer. The building is stunning and modern and such a great price for brand new apartments. I love the gorgeous windows which add so much natural light in my apartment. Thankful that I am able to call West Light home!

I'm a current resident at West Light apartments, and I overall love living here! I often feel like I'm residing in some expensive, posh, boutique hotel as I walk around the hallways. The apartments themselves are gorgeous, brand new, and light, bright, and airy (just as displayed in the pictures online). My apartment was immaculate when I moved in. I looked at quite a few apartments prior to coming here two months ago, and the huge windows in the living area and beautiful view were major selling points (as were the gym and Starbucks-coffee dispensing machine in the lobby!). Given the winters we have in Iowa and potential for tornadoes, the availability of an attached, climate-controlled garage here was another very important consideration. Charlie, who manages West Light, is super friendly and has been responsive to any questions or problems I had both prior to and AFTER I moved in. As a resident here, the staff make it a point to say hi and make me feel like I'm appreciated. The management here held a really nice "Welcome home" dinner about a month ago for all residents which was really sweet. Unfortunately, the food was gone when I got back from work at 5:45pm, but that's not management's fault. In terms of common spaces, the lobby area is well-maintained with many comfy seating options along with a couple couches/cushioned benches. There's also a community room on the 3rd floor with a long table, mini-frig, microwave, bathroom and possibly an oven that residents can rent out for free to host parties. While I didn't get a chance to use the pool before it closed for the season, it always looked so beautiful and clean. I've used the gym a couple of times, and on both occasions everything looked clean and well-maintained. Another cool amenity for those with bikes is free bike storage (along with a tire pump) in the garage. The garage also houses a dog wash station. Lastly, the apartment uses "Valet Living", which is a service that picks up your garbage from right outside your apartment door 5 days a week! This is a very cool feature I've increasingly grown to appreciate. Soundproofing between apartments seems to be quite good, as does overall insulation. I live on the top (4th) floor, so I can't speak to any potential noise issues from people living above me. The neighbors I've encountered here are generally friendly, mature, quiet and respectful of one another. In terms of any negatives, I wish renting a space in the garage were a bit cheaper. For those that don't rent an apartment with a balcony, you can't open the large windows in the living room. Though soundproofing between apartments is quite good, you can easily hear any moderate to loud noise coming from the hallways (though this occurs with ANY apartment complex that has shared hallways). Also, based on my experience, if you live near someone with a dog that barks, cries, or whines excessively, you WILL hear it. If this will bothers you, I'd recommend requesting an apartment away from anyone that owns a dog. Overall, I would highly recommend West Light to anyone looking in the Des Moines/Waukee area for modern, clean, upscale apartments with excellent amenities, attentive management, nice neighbors, and lots of cool events, restaurants, and outdoor activities to participate in!
