The Heritage Hideaway is a two-story private home with a stone fireplace atop Cates Hill on Bowen Island, just minutes above Snug Cove amidst private gardens and ancient forests. The acreage, criss-crossed by trails, is a walker’s paradise leading to Valhalla National Forest and the Bowen Island Ecological Reserve, connecting to the entire trail system of the island, including lakes and beaches. Fall asleep to the sound of Davies Creek babbling outside, along with a small brook running through the property. If you don’t mind steep hills, the house is a 15-minute walk from the ferry, cove center, shopping, and restaurants. With 3 bedrooms, 2 baths (1 with a soaker tub), and a huge deck for indoor/outdoor living, it is a perfect escape for families or groups of friends, or for anybody wanting a place to retreat without being too far from the amenities of the island. The house has everything and offers a “hotel-like” experience—comfortable, stylish interiors with high-quality linens and towels, guest amenities, access to verdant forest trails right from the property, and ornamental heritage gardens. Hide away in our village escape or walk down the hill to the cove and everything that Bowen Island has to offer—coffee shops, restaurants, galleries, and more. You drive 5 minutes or less from the ferry and enter the property from the 3-car parking area via an iron gate draped elegantly with wisteria. Follow the stone pathway to the house set amidst the sunny, cultivated gardens. The house has an elevated feel atop the hill but offers privacy because of the fencing and towering cedars set directly behind the house. The main deck wraps around the front of the house to a large, fully furnished back deck off the living room, overlooking the forest and with access to trails and garden pathways. This home offers the possibility of completely car-free commuting to downtown Vancouver. It is a short walk to the ferry, where walk-ons are guaranteed. The first ferry off-island is at 5:20 am, departing essentially every hour, and the last ferry back from Horseshoe Bay is 10:30 pm. The ferry ride is a short 20 minutes, with wifi and indoor seating, featuring some of the most stunning scenery in the world. From the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal in West Vancouver, there is the 257 Express bus which, regardless of traffic, gets you to downtown in 30-35 minutes depending on your destination. The terminal also has buses for Ambleside, Dundarave, Park Royal, and the rest of West Vancouver if you decide to go into “town” for just an evening, extending your car-free options of dining, theater, and shopping to one of Vancouver’s toniest communities. Of course, you can always drive on as well. This home has one of a small number of public water and sewer licenses so water supply and septic are never a problem despite the island setting. It has a unique water filtration system that includes a UV light sterilization, and other utilities—propane, hydro, high-powered wifi for work and streaming. It is furnished with subtle luxuries that encourage relaxation, with hotel-quality linens, organic silk and snow mattresses, silk upholstery, dinner service for 16 with stemware, and handmade, local Sangre de Fruta skincare products provided (featured at the Shangri-La Vancouver, The Sunset Tower LA, and the Chelsea Hotel NYC). The gardens are award-winning and have been featured in magazines. Additionally, this property is over an acre and includes the trailhead of the forest ..
