A peaceful retreat in challenging times. This home in the open rolling meadows of Custer, bordered by a creek lined with cottonwoods and willows on one side, and tall evergreens on another, is filled with birdsong, the trilling of frogs, the rustle of the winds, and room to spread out and breathe freely under the open sky. The house welcomes you with a large and light-filled great-room with vaulted ceilings opening to the spacious kitchen. There's a bonus room that's just right for a quiet retreat, an office or sewing room, tv room or library. The master bedroom includes a walk-in closet, master bath with large soaking tub, shower and double sinks. The two bedrooms on the west side have a long view of the back of the property, shaded by an ornamental plum tree. On the back patio you'll find a rustic picnic table and a large propane grill. The deck on the south side of the house is perfect for enjoying your outdoor life. There is a very productive plum tree, a young apple tree, and blackberries abound around the perimeter of the property. Across the driveway from the house is a large fenced dog yard with a shade structure. Here, you are close to I5 and the Canadian border, with shopping and dining a couple miles away at the Birch Bay Square, and more choices in every direction. The beach and resort town of Birch Bay is minutes away, and Blaine's cozy border town has even more amenities, including a quiet marina, pier, restaurants and businesses, and a lovely park with shaded picnic tables, a nice trail along the water, and a playground with great play structures. Lynden, with its Dutch old town section and all the major businesses you could need, is less than 20 minutes down the lovely Birch Bay-Lynden Road, or you can jump on I5 and be in Bellingham in the same time, or in Ferndale in 15 minutes. All this, and bird song, the occasional coyote concert, room for pets and kids to adventure, wetlands with cattails and rich ecosystems on over 12 acres! Landlord lives on the property (in building beyond house). Onsite and handy to respond to your questions or emergencies. Otherwise, very private and respectful of your privacy as well. Rent includes electric, water and internet, septic maintenance, and mowing around the house, driveway and large fenced dog yard. No smoking or firearms on the premises. Septic limits occupancy to 5 total. Renter is responsible for tending to the planting beds on 3 sides of the house, where there is currently room for you to create the flower beds that suit you, or just keep them weeded and neat. Tenant to pay propane and garbage. Propane averages ±$100/month over the year. Propane furnace and stove/oven. Electric appliances include dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave, washer, dryer and water heater. 1 year lease followed by month to month. Move in: first month's rent plus $2100 deposit, and any applicable pet deposit. Pets are welcome on approval, with a $250 additional deposit per pet, subject to review.
