I'll be a new arrival to Asheville (planned move-in date, Oct. 9) and am looking for one male or female roommate or a male or female couple to share a two-bedroom, one-bathroom house on 43 Boyd Avenue in West Asheville. This 1,228 square-foot home built in 2007 boasts an open floor plan, a modern kitchen, a laundry room (I'm in the process of buying a washer and dryer.), a large master bedroom with a walk-in closet, a smaller bedroom and a large kitchen with an island. It's located within walking distance of Haywood Road. Rent is $1,300 a month, plus utilities, which we would split two or three ways, depending on how many of us there are. We are also responsible for yard maintenance. I'm the proud papa of two pups: Sofia, 13, a hound-lab, and Atticus, 11, a chow-shepherd (pictured). They love everybody. Because of those guys, however, we unfortunately cannot have any more pets. If my roommate(s) have different schedules than me and can walk the dogs around midday and sometimes feed and walk them around 5 or 6, I'll knock down your rent. (As a reporter, my hours can be long and unpredictable.) So it'd be even cheaper for whomever lives with me. I'll also give you the master bedroom ($700 a month; the smaller bedroom is $600 a month). About me (pictured): I'm a veteran journalist, 45, coming from Minneapolis to continue practicing my craft in a community brimming with beauty and spirituality. I'm purposefully moving to Asheville to be immersed in optimistic energy and pursue my independent writing projects. I've lived in every region of our country, except the South -- and that's about to change. I've also lived in Peru, Spain and Ireland. I like festivals, music and art -- everything Asheville is all about. I'll be arriving with my snowshoes, hiking boots, swim goggles and yoga mat -- and some furniture. I laugh easily, am reflective and self-reflective, enjoy stimulating conversation and most of all, appreciate learning what people believe and why. I'd enjoy living with others who also are living in a sustainable way, are creative and spiritually connected to where they live. I don't do drugs or drink. I don't mind if you drink, as long as it's not central to your life. (If you love the craft-beer scene, that's totally cool. I do, too -- I just don't drink it.) But all drugs are 100-percent off-limits. If you have furniture, great! If not, we can search for deals at thrift shops together. I'm strongly considering buying the house, so would like to find folks who are committed to helping me create and nurture a welcoming, clean and positive place. Preference will be given to those who are willing to stay at least nine months. Before move-in, you will have to clear a $40 background check ($75 for a couple) conducted by the landlord. If interested, please tell me a little bit about yourself in an email and include your phone number. If possible, share a photo or two. I'm looking forward to hearing from and meeting you. Thanks and talk to you soon, Mike
