The building that this apartment is in was built in 1805 as the schoolhouse in Sheepscot which is a village in Newcastle. It was moved to Damariscotta in the 1950's. At that time it was enlarged, placed on a full daylight basement, had the roof structure changed and a steeple added. It served as the Christian Science Church until 2011, when the current owner totally rehabbed it. It served as her restaurant, Savory Maine, until 2 years ago. The location is perfect. It is on a quiet residential street, on the shore of the Damariscotta River and only one block from Damariscotta's vibrant downtown. The space that houses this apartment is in the lower level of the building with the entrance on the water side. It held the kitchen, retail space and some dining tables for the restaurant. The commercial kitchen is still in place, the shower is tiny and the layout is quirky. You will however not find a better location. The rent is all inclusive- heat, air-conditioning, propane, electricity, cable, internet, water, sewer, trash pick-up, plowing. The apartment is furnished. One off street parking space is included. One or two well behaved quiet pets will be considered with a one time non-refundable pet fee. This is a winter rental only. The apartment will be available Oct 1 through April 30.
